The only game I've happily paid full price for and bought DLCs day one.

Best idle game on steam, hands down. Best art too.

There are too many reasons why this game is good and deserving of your time to post in a short review, so here is a list of a few of them:

• In depth character customization through passive skill and item choice
• Free to play with option cosmetic MTX ( absolutely not P2W)
• Multiple new leagues every year to refresh content
• New expansions to core content regularly
• Devs that listen to feedback
• Actual fun gameplay that doesn't feel like a chore
• Endless replayability

If you like ARPGs at all, give this game a try. It may take a while to get used to all of the mechanics that the game offers, but it is a worthwhile learning curve.

Verdict: 9/10

Edit: Epic has just bought Psyonix and will be pulling this game off of steam. This means a loss of workshop and new players will be forced to use Epic's client. I can not support Epic because of their horrible handling of user data, completely unethical exclusivity buyouts, and garbage support/storefront. I no longer recommend this game. Original review below.

Rocket league is a blend of soccer and car games that takes the skill of both but the gameplay of neither. It's a purely skill-based game with an incredibly high skill ceiling that makes you actively want to get better.

The gameplay consists of 5 minute matches where the team that scores the most goals wins. Seems simple enough, right?

At first it is.

When you first start playing, you'll be driving wildly at the ball, slamming into it with the hope that it will somehow make it into the net. But as you learn to control the ball, then aerial, then fake and juke (on purpose), you'll start to see how much depth the game really has.

Even the highest level players are learning new skills. Half flips, wavedashing, and Musty flips are all recent techniques.

Whether you're looking for a casual game to spend 5 minutes on here and there, or a game to devote real effort into to become a top level player, this game is fun, exciting, and different every time you play.

Edit: It's been two years since this review was written, and while musty-flips and wavedashing have been replaced with ceiling shots as the hot new thing, everything else here still holds true. Try this game if you haven't already.

Verdict 9/10
