So I am giving this game a thumbs up... For the base game not the reboot edition.

The economy system of the base game is a bit complex but unique, prioritising keeping your scouting unit alive and well to scour the field for resources while also using it to see what the enemy is up to. Compared to the reboot edition which strips it away and makes no use of scouts at all.

Infantry in the base game are really useful, I heard complaints from others about infantry spam but honestly if you just counter build against infantry you should be fine for the most part, in private games with my friends I have had no problem (We are all seasoned RTS players across many titles.) while in the reboot edition... Infantry are abysmal, there is no point to building them at all which also determines how expansive ones late game economy is (Where you rely on captured prisoners ALA Act of War style to generate funds) Speaking of which the economy.

The Economy system in the base game is fun, it encourages thinking and can see you shift up your strategy depending on how much of one resource you have, some units while costing a higher tier resource are actually cheaper in the end game to make. While with the Reboot edition... Jesus Christ I know the less competent people complained about too many resources but that just means the AI gets easier cash flow, due to there being one resource and upgrades/tiers get stupidly expensive too.

In short, if you are a seasoned RTS player I would advise playing the base game. If not, well you can go wet the bed with the others on the reboot edition where you only need outspam the enemy in vehicles.

Early Access Review
In my first twelve hours I helped push a bridge, fought among the hills and beaches against the Collies, guarded a bridge against commandos and became a partisan.

10/10 Let the wars go on.

This game is a unique sort among the strat MMO's. Its tough at first starting out (for humans that is, I am not a fan of Orc or Elven playstyle) but once you get a decent setup the game becomes fairly easy if you can invest time into your economy first before rushing off to pvp and siege.

Pvp however is fairly unbalanced as all the high levels who use their near unkillable lvl 60 hero's and dragons to terrorize lesser players. Though my sound advice for dealing with small minotaur forces and Hero's is massed Crossbows for the humans. Works like a charm.

While there is an ingame micro transaction thing its completely option for customizables, and several booster packs that can only be bought once per city slot, I think this is a fair system compared to other games like battle pirates where its forcing you to constantly spend to stay up to date.

The factions play very differently from one another, Humans play like most fuedal and medieval armies with a large portion of their troops (or as my suggestion goes for) A lot of Halbardier and Archer battalions as they are the cheapest to upgrade at the local training yard, Human siege is rather inaccurate and I would suggest for those dedicated siege armies to bring along 5-10 Treb's or 8 Dwarvern cannons if you have the crowns for them.

I overall give the game a 6.5/10 for soild gameplay, friendly community, nice enough looking graphics.

Though there are quite a few bugs overall besides the occassional resource loss or other minor incident I would recomend this game to my friends.

This is one of the best DoW games when it comes to multiplayer, tho it is signifigantly lacking in campaign (lets not go there.) It is the multiplayer aspect of Soulstorm and the new factions it add's. Campaign wise it is not even worthy to DoW and Winter Assault, which had supurb and immersive story lines.

Each faction get useful/semi useful air units while also having units tweaked for the little balance this game needs, allowing various playstyles and tactics for all factions which work at least half of the time. Unit detail is pretty good, nothing really obviously ugly looking besides the commanders. Voice acting... well this series has its history of historic voices, best leave it at that.

But while the base game is fun and all I advise everyone to grab the Titanium Wars mod, its able to be used on steam and adds so much to all factions, which turns standard Soulstorm gameplay into three times the hectic chaotic bloodbath it usually is.
Favour the Guard? spam four basilisks which now have a literal range of half the map while you bring out the baneblades, Tau preference? Get three times as more bang for your buck and manta rush everyone early!

Overall, the base game gets 7/10 from me, I advise you get it and then mod the crap out of it.
