Early Access Review
Game is ♥♥♥♥, do not play for free. Diablo 4 cost me $90 at launch. Diablo 4 cost me $90 at launch. I think I've already put more time into this? Maybe not, but it certainly feels much, much more fulfilling. In act 2.

You'll want to google the 4GB Extended Memory patch to get this game to quit freaking out (it's got lots of memory leak issues and it was limited in the memory it could allocate before the patch, this'll fix that) but once it's fixed up, it's still ...just about as much fun as it was when it came out. Combat's aged a bit, but not nearly as badly as the combat has in the later titles. Morrigan's still goated

Slept on this a long minute, it's actually pretty good. It's slop but it's fun, if it's on a big sale I'd recommend picking it up. It's a little too noisy on screen to get a good feel for incoming attacks, but the more "complicated" fights are so repetitive it'll only take a cycle or two before you can feel out what's gonna happen anyways, so it's fine.

It's free. Long as you're okay with being a scrub, can you complain that much really? Seems innocuous enough, I like it more than Destiny so far. Mostly because I'm not annoyed that content I bought isn't "in season" anymore, but I digress

I logged in trying to relive the old days, and the server's mostly barren. I was also being stalked by GMs popping around, probably wondering "Why would anyone be playing this? Are they a bot?" just TP in and out, very disconcerting even for someone who knows what's going on, I can't imagine a new player seeing that sort of stuff when they're trying to grind grasshoppers. I logged out and uninstalled. Creepy experience, do not recommend.

Steam's missing over a thousand hours of tracked time on this game, I promise you. Anyways! I think it's a little rough to say you can't play without paying out the butt; compared to table MTG it's not even CLOSE. About every two sets I drop about a hundred dollars in the client, and maybe 1-2 good value bundles for drafts in between there, and between that and card earnings throughout seasons, quests and what not, I have plenty of cards to make and craft to make a good 2-3 decks every release, and I'm talking Tier 1 decks, stuff that costs hundreds of dollars on paper and goes to near 0 after rotation. Getting started can be a little rough until you get a solid deck hammered out, but once you do you can carry yourself through the new releases. And lucky you, red deck wins has been the deck to beat for... three years now! And it's still broken even after rotation!

There's a few issues with the client; there's no way to dump your timer so sometimes the most "efficient" way to play games with lots of triggers is to just exhaust the timer (run it out/rope) which sucks for everyone... There's no hard skip option that I can find where you press it and it automatically gives priority until your next turn or you disable it, so it's hard to bluff... the search engine sucks, you need to know how to do boolean searches and even then you're going to miss cards you actually want (i.e. I want cards about "Bats", searching bats brings in "battles, enters the battlefield" etc, and even when you nail it down you've still gotta do other filters and bad searches to find EVERY card that deals with "bats" when... Bats is a creature type! Should be a searchable keyword, but they just search text, it's really bad)

Overall, generally, the client's come a long way in remaining stable since launch. Not too many problems. If you want a challenge playing MTG for free, I'd say you've got plenty of game to play here, even if you don't want to spend money. Plenty of fun cards to make and play, and Commander... woo! Time to brew.

Iunno. I played the hell out of Fallout 3, but every Bethesda game I've tried since I just can't really get hooked on. This was the same, just... a lot more empty space. Meh.

Remember when Steam screwed up and the game was up for like, $5 or something in 2011?

I just got to it. Turns out, pretty good! Having a lot more fun in this than I was in Starfield. There's a dash button to strafe smash other vehicles. Why doesn't GTA have this in it? What a waste

edit: Finished it in just about 13 hours even, really enjoyed like 90% of it. The side missions get pretty repetitive, something GTA and Yakuza are handily better at, but the shootouts and inner city driving (thanks to the VERY realistic ram button), super super fun. Not as "real" as GTA, but a lot of fun to play around with regardless. Glad I finally went back and played this!

Look, I'm not saying Diablo 4 has less playtime than Silent Hope does for me (across two platforms) because Silent Hope ended up being more fun to play.

But it did.
