If you have the base game of terraria and don't care for steam achievements, PLAY ON TMODLOADER.
Simply using some Quality of Life mods such as alchemist npc and Toasty's QoL is invaluable and already vastly improves the player experience, before even accounting for the many masterpieces that are content mods such as calamity.
