The thing that bums me out about Tales From The Borderlands is that is starts out so, so, so promising and ends fairly dull and forgettable.

The game starts you out as this scummy duo of a con-artist and a corporate schmuck, it's a beautiful contrast to the authority figures and respected characters that Telltale's games have become so accustomed to. It actively encourages you to make ♥♥♥♥♥♥ decisions and be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, something I loved! It was a game with a gray decision area, letting you have attitude and take the easy way out because that's exactly how your character would act! It's great! The first 3 acts even follow this formula to a T and it feels just wonderful.

But then the fourth episode rears its ugly mug and things start getting cliched and choices become very black and white. It immediately starts with some horrendously forced attempt at a tear-jerker by killing off a character none of the cast knows much about and tries to act choked up about some guy they kind of knew dying. It's also at this point Telltale starts trying to sell a romance between Sasha and Rhys which I find equally dumb. There's no need for it here.

Episode 5 turns the plot for a u-turn by completely forgetting about the initial plot and making some crappy power-rangers fight the climax of the series. It's horrendously out of place and it doesn't satisfy the curiosity I had at the beginning of the series.

It's not all bad, but man it really hurts the overall product. I can't say I wouldn't recommend it (at least the first 3 episodes that is), but it is so very, very disappointing. I guess I'd recommend it, but it's not without problems.

This honestly may be the best game I played in 2015, maybe even better than Bloodborne.

The gunplay is tight, the multiplayer is addictive, it's fast-paced and super fun with any amount of people.

Oh Sherlock...

You are so, so, SO close to being a good game. But you still stumble into the genre pitfalls that so many graphic adventure games fall into. I got stuck so many times because it's difficult to tell what you can pick up and what you can't. There are several sections where I knew how to finish the puzzle, but couldn't find one of the missing pieces. Other times said puzzles semt to not work or be bugged, but was actually the game being picky about item placement. The final straw for me was the absolute pixel-precision clicking for some puzzles.

While it's miles better than the previous two games, it still is a frustrating exercise in puzzles and item collecting. I said it in my last review and I'll say it in this one: The satisfaction of solving a puzzle at no point includes gathering items. Having such large levels detracts from puzzle-solving and the stupidity of forcing order of certain puzzles is moronic to say the least.

Is this it? Really?

Mr. Schaefer, I don't mind a short game, but really? This is the best you could muster? A pathetically short story with mind-numbingly easy puzzles and uninteresting characters? I'd have to say I'm pretty disappointed.

As far as art style goes, its alright, but it feels....off. I don't even really know how to describe it. It feels really faux-something. It doesn't feel inspired and I know how pretentious this comes off as. But something about it bugged me through the whole thing.

Now all of you can defend this game saying "But part 2 is coming!" That doesn't matter. This is a review for the product being sold as-is. And honestly I think it's a pretty lousy deal. If Act 2 is really so great then let it prove itself. Act 1 is simply mediocre.

As others have said, this is a crappy point'n'click.

It's a bit unfair to criticize the visuals considering how insanely fast computer graphics have come in even the last 5 years. That said, this is certainly a game that does not stand up in time. That's what you get with compressed video/images though. Pixelated, artifacted, and more. It looks like utter garbage and makes it that much more difficult to tell where objects or clickable items are.

Beyond that, some of the puzzles here are utterly nonsensical. Use a cane to prod open a hunting trophy. Find a fork under the carpet in the middle of a hallway. And the complete pixel-hunting precision that some of these require are beyond frustrating. Why do I need all of the items to begin this puzzle? Why are half of these items so hard to find? The satisfaction of a puzzle game is NOT finding items, it's discovering how to use them.

In-addition, this game has a huge problem with crashing, not to mention ways to set you up for failure. I got to a point where I had accidentally saved after a point where I could no longer progress, and the only way to fix it was to go back almost an hours-worth of gameplay to restart it. I say, "No thank you, I'm good".

I would consider myself a huge fan of puzzle/adventure/point'n'clicks. But god, this one just nails everything that makes this tedious. I can't speak for the rest of the Holmes series, but I would avoid Mystery of the Mummy like one of the seven plagues.

This review is for the single-player portion. I did not play the multiplayer.

Wolfenstein: The New Order isn't a 10/10 game. It's really not an 8/10 either. That said, it is so vastly better than most any shooter that has come out in god knows how long and its old-school level design and difficulty is something to be commended.

Starting the game I was worried: Getting bombared by objectives and cinematic sequences isn't exactly promising for gameplay in this day and age. But, low and behold, after the first 5 or so minutes I was shooting nazi's with a variety of weapons and having no tutorials shoved into my throat. It gave me free reign to experiment with whatever I saw fit. On top of that, instead of incorporating a leaning to two buttons (left and right, respectively), it incorporates a more interesting system. Holding alt activates lean, which you can then lean in any direction you see fit. It works wonderfully and added a layer of depth to combat. The enemy AI was nice too, ducking behind corners and running when you shoot them. It's not something revolutionary, but a nice touch that is a must for a game centered around gunplay. Additional weapon types and ammo are a plus, as is an old-school multi-gun arsenal, no two weapon limit in sight. Almost every level introduces something new which is wonderful, not enough games do this anymore. Boss fights are probably the only thing I'd criticize, as they're not very inventive. Just shoot until it dies.

The story isn't half-bad either. Though it suffers from manly gravel voiceovers, it's nice to see characters that aren't paperthin like most shooters. Each person has a small backstory that usually explains how they are today. The game also has a lovely change in scenery every few levels, going from the civillian sections to a labor camp and eventually to the moon. It sets a nice background for killing nazis to. Though I view the ending as fairly dumb and rushed, if you're gonna allude to such a large climax, you better show it.

The latest Wolfenstein will last you about 10 or so hours on the single player campaign and the difficulty levels are definitely varied enough to give you a reason to replay. It's definitely worth $30 or so.

Note: There are noteworthy graphical issues with this game. I spent around 2 hours trying to get it running smoothly on an intel/nvidia rig. It requires more than just a workaround or executable before you launch the game. Texture pop-in, as always with ID Tech 5, is horrendous and the game can stutter here and there. Aside from this, it was running fairly smoothly the whole way through.

Assassin's Creed III is a monument to everything you SHOULDN'T do in a video game, especially the third entry in a high-profile series. It's so foolishly ambitious that it trips over ever flaw it could possibly have, not stumbling, but falling down a flight of game-breaking glitches, buggy mechanics, shoehorned features, and the smallest focus on actual assassinations in the entire series.

I do have to give it credit though, the story they went for was a good idea. Setting up Haytham as the main character only to bait and switch him is clever. The issue was making an interesting character out of Conor, which they downright failed to do. Conor never seems to change gears throughout the entireity of the story, helped by mediocre voicework.

4 times I had to restart the game due to glitches, either being unable to complete a mission or due to the world disappearing around me. Not to mention crashes I encountered.

In all honesty, just skip this game and go straight to 4. If you're really interested in the story, it's available by Wikipedia or in cutscene form on Youtube. The game itself is not worth the time of day. I gave up on the game after I realized I was still going through what was essentially tutorials 8 hours into the game.

Arkham Origins is a slice of greasy pizza after a meal of medium-rare steak and wine. Sure, it's not outright bad, but it leaves the pallet unsatisfied. The combat felt off in Origins and for the longest time I had trouble figuring out why. But during the halfway point, I think I figured it out: The baddie placement. In the previous games, lots of care had been taken in picking which baddies work in what amounts and when special enemies were needed. Here it seems like more of a copy-paste job, carelessly throwing in specials even if their abilities severely hinders the combat. It leads to a lot of frustration and eagerness to get out of combat, something the series hasn't had an issue with until now.

In terms of new content, Arkham Origins is kind of bare bones. You have a majority of your old weapons available to you very early and some new ones that, unfortunately, don't mean much in combat. Some of the items feel completely shoehorned in, such as the Sonic Batarang. Not only did it seemingly just appear in my inventory, but there is never any sort of need for it or tactical advantage for using it. So why is it here?

The story is fairly muddled. It starts off with Black Mask hiring 8 supervillanous hitmen to take you down on Christmas Eve. Why Christmas Eve? "Who cares" is the answer the game gives. The story actually rehashes some villains, such as Bane, the Riddler, the Penguin, and Deadshot. Unfortunately there isn't much to talk about when it comes to the plot without getting into spoilers. It's not exactly clear why Black Mask hired the assassins in the first place and by the end of the game it's even more confusing. Topping that off, the game ends seemingly out of nowhere, in what I thought was the beginning of the third act. It just sort of stops.

There are still a handful of graphical errors and strange Not to mention several game-stopping glitches I encountered in-game despite the titles having been out for 5 months.

I don't really think fans of the last two Arkham games will get much out of Arkham Origins, it feels like microwave leftovers. The only people I would recommend this to are die-hard fans of the games or Batman in-general, and even then I would recommend getting it at a low price.

Also can I mention that the game DOESN'T HAVE A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MOUSE SENSITIVY SETTING?

The Cave is such a mixed bag I'm honestly not sure if I can give it a recommendation or not. I was equally frustrated by the game for as much as it charmed me.

The Cave is a hybrid point-and-click adventure paired with the mechanics of a platformer. You're given a choice of seven characters to choose from (An Adventurer, Knight, Scientist, Time-Traveler, Hillbilly, pair of Twins, and Monk), each of which can change the journey of your playthrough.

The art design of the game is lovely and the voice work is doubly so. It has that Monkey Island charm that Ron Gilbert is so well-known for and it shows through the many humorous spouts of dialogue from the narrator and various people you meet in the cave. There are lots of little touches that will please even the most picky of gamers and it's in my opinion that the charm of this game is easily one of its strongest components.

The objective of the game is to discover the backstories of each character through a series of illustrations unlocked by finding symbols on the walls of the cave. At the start of each game you select 3 characters to journey through the cave with, each with a unique level attributed to them. Some are fun, such as the Knight's level in-which you steal an amulet from a dragon and end up destroying the kingdom in the process, but some are just tedious, such as the Adventurer's level, filled with puzzles that give you no indication of how to solve them. Along the way you play through each character's origin story which involves puzzle solving, block pushing, item-using, and so on. It's just such a shame that the endings of each character (of which there are two for each), only involve still pictures and no sort of interactive elements. If you want to get the opposite ending, you have to play through the entire game again with no real changes to the levels. The gameplay of The Cave can best be described as "tedious", and for a game that depends on multiple playthroughs this is a big problem.

Sorry Ron, but this adventure just wasn't up to par.

Let's get this out of the way: Gone Home is an interactive experience, much like The Novelist, The Stanely Parable, and other games of such caliber. Unlike a game like The Stanely Parable, though, Gone Home doesn't have much of a point to its narrative other than being gaming's version of oscar-bait; It's 90% story and 10% playing detective.

The exploration of the game is detailed nicely, with every room filled with scraps of the story for each family member. This is betrayed by the games audio logs from Sam (your sister) who just flat-out explains the reason for notes and such and kills any desire for discovery. Instead, it encourages clicking and examing every object until the next audio log plays. It's disappointing considering the amount of effort put into the detail.

What annoys me about the narrative is that if the same story had been told with a heterosexual couple instead of lesbians, it'd be knocked for cliche romance-novel writing and predictable endings.

Bottom Line: Is Gone Home a good game? Sure, it's worth exactly one playthrough. Is it worth $20? Absolutely not. Wait until a sale or humble bundle for this one. It's 3 hours at its very, very, very most.
