Updated: 5/12/2021

[1] Core Gameplay: 94/100 A (Exceptional)
-3 weapons(linetic, special, heavy), 3 main abilities(grenade, class ability, melee), 3 classes(Titan, Hunter, Warlock)
-4 Element system that affects core gameplay(Solar, Arc, Void, and Stasis)
-Customizable abilities and specific supers for primary classes and subclasses
-Dozens of modification choices for weapons, armor, abilities, etc.
-Complete quests and bounties with the hundreds of unlockables(weapons, armor, abilities, triumph points, emblems, etc) that are in the game

[2] Story: 74/100 C (Average)
-Long term narrative with ups and downs(lots of interesting characters and worldbuilding, tying it all together is the weakest part)
-Narrative has improved over the years(Last few seasons have addressed the last point)
-Sluggish when starting out but there is lots of depth(especially with lore and as missions progress)

[3] PVE: 89/100 B+ (Very Good)
-Main appeal for most players and content is concentrated in it
-Casual gameplay is quick fun(story missions, strikes, patrols, etc.)
-Endgame content is more challenging and requires some coordination(raids, nightfall strikes, etc/)
-Exploration activities and random encounters are neat
-Gear is rewarding and progression feels good

[4] PVP: 82/100 B- (Competent)
-Varying levels of competition as you would expect with a large player base
-End game pvp content is less accessible to average-skilled players
-Gameplay can be frustrating due to the learning curve(gunplay skill, different class knowledge, various abilities, strategies, map design, movement knowledge, etc.)
-I still find the experience enjoyable as an above average player

[5] Development/Content/Misc: 91/100 A- (Excellent)
-It is consistent and Bungie has been delivering better content as of recent
-Hundreds of hours can be spent per expansion
-The content roadmap and weekly community updates are great
-Day to day activities with rotating modifiers, dungeons, events, and more
-Content and and eventually will be repetitive if you play multiple hours every day throughout the season
-Free for all events scattered across the year
-Paid cosmetics are readily available and do not directly modify gameplay or give advantages

[6] Community: 79/100 C+ (Above Average)
-One of the most passionate communities I have ever seen
-Highly vocal for better and for worse(see next paragraph)
-Due to the sheer size, it can take awhile to find players that fit your style
-LFG discord servers and online info(like external management tools or databases) is readily available

[7] “Destiny 2 is my favorite game, I hate it”
High bar, higher expectations. Destiny 2 has a plethora of highly complex and well designed gameplay systems. That said, it is very easy to identify the shortcomings within them. Is Destiny 2 perfect? Of course not! But does it offer a sizable amount of content for both casual and dedicated players? Yes, but it is not a game for everyone.
In regards to the dedicated player base, there is a common mindset of masochism and apathy that this community likes to push(I’ll avoid specifics for the sake of not writing an essay). And for some(including myself), hurts the experience of playing this game. It is off-putting but, the truth is that people really care about Destiny 2. It is like they are waiting for it to bloom into the greatest game they have ever played. And that is the paradox, It has been gradually getting better overall but that is quickly obscured by the apathy mentality.

[8] Closing Thoughts
To conclude, I still sign onto the game and have my fun with friends or myself. The game has kept giving over all these years, building experiences that bring feelings of satisfaction. I hope you create experiences like that too if you are interested in giving Destiny 2 a try.

[9] Final Score: 85/100 B (Good)
