Early Access Review
distressing and horrifying.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

This game is just a bag full of mixed feelings and failed attempts:
- Ethan is an annoying brat. The "every guy" trope worked in Re7 because it enhanced the horror aspect. In Village they tried to force a more "re-like" quirky personality but it just doesn't work the way other protags in the series do (Leon, Chris, Jill, Claire...).
- The game focuses more on combat than horror. That by itself is not a bad thing. Re4 and Re4Remake are one of my favorite Re-games and games in general because the combat focus works so well. Every single aspect in those games' design works together. Village just feels clunky and so does Re7 but Re7 isn't trying to be an action game. Village tries and fails.
- The writing is mid at best and "Ethan no" at worst. This is the most plot hole filled Re-game since Re6.
- Takes way too many ideas from Re4. Almost a ripoff.
+ One of the best horror sequences ever in house Beneviento. Just makes me wish the whole game was as good.
+ The game looks gorgeous and the motion capture and voice acting is great.

I don't completely hate it. It's just overrated as heck. If this is your favorite Re-game, you must be new to the series. Get your standards higher.

Would you kindly play Bioshock?

Bioshock really shows that video games can be art. This kind of story and worldbuilding couldn't be achieved with any other art form. It has the best plot twist I have ever witnessed and a sandbox so free and dynamic it's almost frightening. To enjoy this masterpiece you don't even have to be a veteran fps enthusiast because Bioshock blends so many different genres: fps, rpg, stealth, strategy and horror. So there really is something for everyone.

Many people have had problems with 1. There being a mandatory additional launcher (2k Laucher) and 2. Gamebreaking bugs. For me neither one of those have been a deal. You can disable 2k Laucher with SteamEdit and I haven't experienced any bugs that ruined my experience. Every now and then a body starts glitching on the ground but that happens in basically every video game...

Only nitpick I have is that because respawning keeps your progress, you can basically brute force everything which takes some of the strategic elements away.

EDIT: The ending is just straight up bad and unpolished. Ken Levine has even apologized for it xD

This artstyle, story and gameplay never gets old so you don't have to worry about playing it right now. Just remember to do so before eventually passing away. Trust me. You won't regret.

Forgot to make a review.
Uhhh.
Seven is the second scariest Resident Evil. It revived the whole series from the grave dug by six. The last third of the game sucks hard but everything else is almost perfection.
It's a bummer that eight went to a different direction without much to compensate.

Even with the separate ways DLC it is still a 20h experience. So the fact that I have almost 150h in the game just by replaying it ... is something.
They took everything I loved from the original and just made it better. It is not the most scary RE but the atmosphere and combat is purely unmatched. Truly a masterpiece even on its own but especially as a remake.
