Comedy, tragedy, adventure, romance. They even arranged it in a beginning, middle, and end. An exemplar work of fiction. Also you're a cat.

This is like the Queen's Gambit for StarCraft II. You do not need to understand or even know how to play the game to enjoy it. It does a damn good job explaining it without sacrificing it's plot, pacing, or characters because the creators of this game did their homework. If you are experienced in the game, there's no regrets there either. Anyone can enjoy this unless they're in it for the gameplay. In which case, dude. This is a visual novel.

First Supergiant game that broke the 20-30 hour marker for me and still climbing. Their games always has insanely imaginative worlds and the storytelling chops to match whatever crazy ideas they're trying to get out there. This is more like Pyre where the characters drive the plot. I'd talk about its gameplay but I don't like rogue-like games. This is the exception. It's too good to pass up.

The music is typical as you'd expect from Supergiant. Darren Korb, Ashley Barrett. Obviously everyone already knows.

This is Fallout 3 with a couple of solid mods from nexusmods.com preinstalled, the notable ones being RTS - Real Time Settler (http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/7070/?) and CRAFT (http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/4447/?) It's hard for me to compare gameplay because I don't remember it. Gameplay was easy in Fallout 3 no matter what you set the difficulty, and this time it's no different. Unless you mod the game with the specific goal to make it difficult, there's no way you'll struggle through the wasteland no matter how stupid you made your S.P.E.C.I.A.L and perks. For example, a friend asked me what she should S.P.E.C.I.A.L.ize in. I told her to go charisma and luck. She's a VATs murdering machine in her game. I decided to go completely balanced with 4 in every S.P.E.C.I.A.L, because I didn't want to think about it. At first, I started specializing in fist fighting because I thought it was too much a hassle to pick up weapons. It was hard to fight deathclaws like that though, so I thought, "screw it," I picked up a pool que as the first melee weapon I found. I beat that deathclaw to death like I just swore on me mum. Two points wasted in fist fighting, did I regret it? Nope. You get levels really easy in this game. You get exp for doing pretty much anything.

What I mean by "it's Fallout 3" is in the story. It's very grand, epic in scale at times, and while the dialogue and characterization will fail over and over again (because let's face it, Bethesda wrote it), it's still addicting to try and get through. I suppose it's a lot like 50 Shades of Grey in that respect. It's not going to hailed as a golden standard of writing in any part of the multiverse, but it's cheap, fun, and satisfying like a bag of Doritos. My ending was anticlimactic, and I got the distinct feeling it wasn't written as the "canon" ending in mind, but you know what? I liked my character, and I'm just glad I'll never have to play through that story ever again. But I'll get back to that in a bit.

It says I have a massive amount of hours spent in this game (108 since this review), but while I did enjoy the story in the most ironic way possible (I don't want to post spoilers), the vast majority of my time was playing the Real Time Settler mod. My goal was to bring some semblance of civilization back in as much of the Commonwealth I could, so that meant every settlement had to have all the amenities such as dining tables, kitchens, beds, etc, but the most important thing was the television. Every single settlement, home, etc, had to have its own individual working television set, and it's been one hell of a ride trying to accomplish that mission. My Commonwealth is certainly a place to be proud of, and while we only have one channel currently available, my head-canon goal for my character will be him inventing more channels for all his friends to waste their time with.

Anyway, as mentioned I'll never have to play through the storyline again. It's honestly really terrible, and I've no desire to re-experience it as a new character because I doubt I'd be missing much. Most of the game is centered around you needing to commit genocide against a bunch of things in a location, and the flavor missions consisted of doing that all over again -in the exact same location.- No, when I re-install this again in a year's time, I expect there to be tons of deliciously ambitious mods that can make the Commonwealth seem fresh again. Or at least, add something more to do than the boring ol' "kill everyone you see" staple of Bethesda storytelling.

It will be a great game, but I would not recommend it for now while there isn't even a Creation Kit or GECK or whatever they want to call it out yet. They did the right thing by downloading two great mods at the start, but for this to be gold, they'll need to let the community have at it.

Consider this a "Recommend" once that happens.
