Early Access Review
They've recently added an Anti-cheat.

This sounds like a good thing, to most people! It stops people from cheating. Until you look past surface level glances.

VRC isn't a game, that has cheaters. It's a social platform. This kills mods. Not cheaters. Mods that allow better immersion, QOL additions, mods that help with performance and stability. There's a bunch of mods that allow external interactions, with haptic vests, and other non-supported devices.

Yes, there was issues with "malicious clients" but.. this doesn't solve those issues either. The malicious clients are called rippers, and crashers.

Rippers use a mod to rip private avatar data/models that were otherwise private. This is done, because the data and models are unencrypted, plaintext style files. all these mods do, is fine and take said files.

Crashers can specifically target someone, and cause them to crash. This is mostly done by avatars. not mods.

EAC doesn't solve either of these issues. Crashers still have avatars. And the files are still unencrypted! All this update does, is cause damage to a community, stop a majority from enjoying, or even *using* this social platform. Because most of these mods? Fix critical issues. Not just quality of life, or feature additions. They fix issues that have been around for years.

And now those fixes are gone.

I picked this up for about 10 USD, during a sale. And this game is worth it, for that sort of price.

The game is overall pretty fun, gunplay is enjoyable, most of the characters are interesting and the map itself feels pretty full, for being so large... But there's some major issues.

You build up points completing missions and map objectives. Once you have enough, the game will whisk you off to a long cutscene that continues the main story. There's no way to avoid this. The problem is, you gain points while doing side quests, and other such things. Most likely, you're in the middle of something when these happen! "I see you're having fun, and keeping busy in this big ole' map of ours! Let's make you take a 5 minute break and leave you halfway across said map from what you wanted to do after!"

These cutscenes are often 5+ minutes long (I've started timing them, just because of how insane these felt) and most are unskipable.. But you can't walk away either, since most will make you walk 10~ feet in game around the mid point.

It's honestly a shame how infuriating these can be. They make me want to try and skip them, or browse on a different monitor while these play instead of paying attention to the story, so I can get back to what I was doing.

This is honestly one of the best battletech/mechwarrior games I've ever played. With a breathtaking combo of a lore friendly story, a decently in depth mechlab and a well fleshed out combat system, it really checks all the boxes. With the modding community welcomed with open arms, it means that you can truly go all out with Roguetech, putting everything you could ever want (And some you don't, like a nuke wielding Urbie..).

This is absolutely worth picking up if you like strategy games.

I've been playing this off and on for a few years now, mostly on my phone. It's a wonderful de-stressing tool, with a minimalist UI, and a game design that lets nearly anyone play.

While there's strategy, you can more then happily just hop in, and do nearly anything for some level of success, though there's a learning curve for making the best network you can.

TLDR; It's not worth it. Not for the single Player, not for the Multiplayer. Don't give Rockstar money for this game.

As other reveiws and countless articles have shown, Rockstar does not listen to the playerbase. The anti-Cheat just doesn't work.

I've been permanently banned from all of GTA Online without ever going into a public server. All I've done is join a friends private, invite only session. This was the first time I logged into GTA online, I should add.

So, I call up Rockstar support. I explain my issue.

"It seems like our Anti Cheat engine flagged you on accident, since it has no reason why."

"Wonderful. When do you think I can play again?"

"Bans can't be appealed or removed."

"You just said that I was falsely banned."

"Yes Sir."

"And... I'm going to still be banned. "

"Yes Sir. If that is all, you can fill out a small questionaire about how we helped you today!"

Oh.. You bet I filled that puppy out. Again. Don't buy this game. The single player is good, but not worth the issues you WILL have with rockstar.
