Really wanted to like this game, but its just bogged down by so much I can't even fully explain all of its issues in a single review. If you want to see for yourself, buy it and refund within 2 hours. In that time you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Damn shame really.

Played this on stream and absolutely loved it. Lots of callbacks to early Resident Evil, King's Field, and several other games I've enjoyed.

I liked the combat. There's surprisingly tons of weapon variety, and parrying enemies and hitting them with follow-up attacks is satisfying. I would have loved if different weapons like the Battle Axe could have more of an effect on the environment like destroying barricades. Talismans are probably the weakest part of the combat system to me. I only ever used them a handful of times in my first playthrough and I didn't feel like they provided much aside from healing (of which I had plenty) until I reached the latter half of the game. Kinda wished more of them did weirder things like the Banish Spirit talisman but the long range damaging talisman later on was pretty strong.

Exploring the dungeon itself was a lot of fun and I'm surprised with how many secret rooms there are. If you ever get around to a sequel I'd love to see weirder solutions to open up optional areas, like a key that can only be seen with a certain vision-mode etc. I also loved that it was easy to get back to the central hub once it opened up and I'm glad there wasn't a limit on the talisman that allowed you to do so. I did also feel like I had a LOT of resources, which I know is partially due to my experience with the genre, but I do wish there was a harder difficulty I could select that limited the bountiful amounts of healing and ranged ammo I found in my playthrough.

Overall I enjoyed the story even if I wish there was more dialogue or flashback pieces connecting it, and I heavily enjoyed the gameplay loop. This is an excellent and short game that's definitely worth your time, especially if you're a fan of survival horror.

Takes the best parts about games like Phasmophobia and stays interesting even after really long sessions of play. Easy to become obsessed with it and its quickly become one of my favorite games to play with a group.
