Fun, weird, and intriguing game as a whole. I didn't really realize this was a game to "avoid spoilers" with initially, but certainly agree with that advice. That being said I have made sure to keep this review as spoiler free as possible.

The card game itself and visual style of this title is what initially interested me; however, the narrative/story is the real meat and potatoes of this game. Unexpectedly it became apparent that the card game was really just a vehicle to get you from one story moment to the next. The rogue mechanics also begin to deteriorate as you progress further into the game as well. The visual style I mentioned? Also, evolves and changes with the story. Because of this Inscryption seems to do it's best to not get in the way of your progress; it wants you to eventually move forward through the story and experience it in full. Most of the puzzles encountered aren't overly challenging, and some can likely be brute forced quicker than looking up the answer online. If you struggle to win in the card game I don't think you would be doing yourself any dis-service by looking up tips to win in order to progress.

The sound overall is good, not great. Don't expect voice acting or a massively orchestrated soundtrack. What is there works well, but during some sessions I found myself putting on some other relaxing music as I worked through the card games. Visuals as a whole I mostly enjoyed, some portions more than others. Again it's nothing ultra high fidelity, but what is there is well-suited and tasteful.

Overall Inscryption is a game I could recommend to fans of deck builders, puzzle games, mystery games, roguelikes, FMVs, and maybe even some conversation-choice-style games like Life is Strange etc. It's a game that gets under your skin in different ways and keeps bringing you back to it until you reach the finish....and well, even then there may be more questions to be answered.
