An undeniably solid title, especially in an age of endless remakes, reboots etc.

Compared to its 'horror game turned remake' contemporaries, Dead Space doesn't seek to innovate on its predecessor much, but rather add a layer of polish on an already impressive title.

There's not much new to see, outside of some new scenes, an alternative route (likely non-canon) and a few new lore implications.
That may be a downside for some, but it didn't bother me much.

It's great because it's foundations are so solid.

It's great because it's Dead Space again.

And that's worth celebrating.

The best of its kind, a 'Soulslike' that almost doesn't deserve the term - as its the first to take these beloved mechanics and aesthetic signifiers to create something that stands alongside its FromSoft inspirations, as opposed to on the shoulders of them.

I went in with every intention of comparing it to that legendary catalogue.
I was wrong to do so - Lies of P wears it's influences proudly, whilst generating something new and captivating.

NEOWIZ have got a lot of gas left. Keep an eye on them, I expect we will see more homeruns before we know it.

It took me 5 years to play this game and that's criminal.

FromSoft shifting into Rhythm games isn't what I expected but I'm here for it.

Weak combat made up for in good storytelling and some tasty spectacle.

Exploration is a joke, a shame as it was one of Elden Ring's strong points. Overworld is filled with nothing, and when it is, it's a Glovewort, Smithing Stone or Somber Stone you haven't needed for half your playthrough. Shadow of the Erdtree has a talent for wasting your time, something unseen by FromSoft DLCs up to this point.

I had high expectations, as the DLC tends to be the undisputed high point of these titles, but this is a terrible letdown. 'Expansion' borders on offensive, as when you strip back the mind numbing hours galloping on Torrent to pick up garbage, it's yet another FromSoft DLC with good fights and engaging dungeons, held back by some incredibly baffling design decisions.

Good bosses, but Sekiro and Dark Souls don't ask you to 'explore' for 20 hours to get arbitrary Scadutree Fragments to be granted the privilege to fight bosses.

And they're cheaper. With better bosses.

Buy them instead.
