as of 2025, ZOS has decided to double dip with the season pass which features micro DLCs (previously covered by the ESO+ subscription) for 50 dollars per year. So you need to pay your monthly sub AND buy a yearly season pass now. all of this which they say will be more frequent but less content overall. No thanking you.

The Elder Scrolls Online is a game I have some history with, Many years ago when I bought it on steam I gave it a very negative review finding it bland, hard to get through and combat was a real slog. Especially as a tank player with no easy way to switch builds for overland or otherwise content.

Today. Almost 8 years later I can honestly say ESO is one of my favourite laid back games. It can be played completely casually where you log in, do a quest or half of one a day and log off, tamper with your crafting if you are into that or even just a bit more of your grind to get a set of peryite robes from a public dungeon.

They have vastly improved combat and with the addition of mythic items you can obtain via scrying, You have more interesting and some easier more accessible build options. Some say overland is a bit too easy now but I think it's perfect for those players whom don't want to delve into harder content as it should be, as harder content is available if you want to do it.

The abundance of easy to obtain overland and crafted gear, Some of which is very very good makes playing the game to a good level without too much investment amazing for newer and more casual players. Naturally as it should be for the best of the best you want to do the endgame veteran trials (of which there are many)

All content in ESO is relevant thanks to it's scaling, which can be hit or miss depending on your view of adaptive content but you can do anything in any order, any zone and even leave for a year and come back and do exactly what you where doing and not be left behind.

ESO has some really amazing PvP in cyrodil though this area is one that is harder to peg as a positive as this kind of content is very very personal and many do not like it.

ESO can be played solo or as a group. It encourages multiple play styles and even has a small roleplay scene.

The stories are great, The characters are deep and interesting and it really doesn't require you to put in any more effort than you want to to get something out of it.

One major negative though is the store's lootboxes. They are a predatory form of monetisation that work especially on those who are easier to manipulate with addictive personalities, I am one of them I have spent more than I am happy with on them. The endeavour system does not make up for lootboxes being egregious.

Overall it is a very good game, and being F2P you really get your moneys worth.
