It is a crying shame this game is getting negative reviews due to people having either a low understanding of technical application or barely any understanding of other cultures. I really wanted it to do well.

Its quite solid and plays better and smoother than most games in the series. Its a solid game.

Fans need to have some faith. If you are a fan of the series take a leap and don't listen to the negative feedback. Its all stemming from a lack of understanding. And keep in mind most Japanese ports have the confirm and back buttons reversed as they read in reverse. Its confusing for 2 minutes but after some practice you get used to it quite fast. Anyone who has ever read a manga or played on a Nintendo brand controller and then went back to playing on an Xbox controller will know what I mean.

As for having to disable steam input that is not the developer's fault that is steams and the way it wraps the api.

So, As I said misunderstandings.

There was a time we couldn't play a lot of these games from japan in the US unless we pirated or imported them then we would have to wait until some kind soul was nice enough to translate the title and patch them for us (Ys Fans can feel my pain some day we will play V Kefin and it will be glorious) and it would still be problematic or visually unappealing cause some stuff would just not look or sound right. As a fan keep this in mind if these games aren't successful there is no reason to localize them outside their country of origin. Meaning those dark times could repeat themselves if you listen to negative reviews all due to player misunderstandings and misconceptions this could be our dark fate once more. Don't let the darkness return take the leap. Enjoy a great piece of river city history and contribute to the continuing effort of ports and localization of foreign titles we love. What do you have to lose. Its not a AAA price tag.

If you are not an existing fan familiarize your self with the core concepts and play style before buying a title that is doing exactly what the fans want. It might not be for you and that is fine. Not every thing on this planet needs to be for every one. Not sure when people lost sight of this basic principle.

As far as River City Games goes this is a 10 and it delivers.
And thank Akihabara its a good localization.
We get Kunio not Alex, (although Alex has a cameo which I find hysterical)

The game is the second remake of Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari

Rival Showdown retells the story through Kunio's eyes and his perspective
This with the addition of the four day time span not only adds re-playability but its essentially a entire new title all together rather than a remake.


Lastly, if you have not played River City Saga: Three Kingdoms as of yet. That game is also a 10 and I highly recommend it.

As a previous review said they took the controls and everything that worked for saga and added it to this port
And again Kunio not Alex, Riki not Ryan
Both solid titles
And in addition to that they added Co-op
A must have for River city fans.
