I've enjoyed this game alot, the mission types have all been fun, the weapons are fun, the 4 classes are all fun, hanging out waiting for a group to form and dancing at the bar is far, etc etc. The developers really know what they are doing as they make this game

I think you'll enjoy this game, the art style and music are pleasant, and learning the game through trial and error is quite fun
Different characters can often lend to unique enough ways to play, trivializing an aspect you don't enjoy, while perhaps making something else harder (If you want challenging combat, but don't want to cut down trees, try Maxwell, a low health character who can make shadow minions to log or mine for him, or go for Wolfgang/Wigfrid, two strong characters who excel at combat, but need more maintenance on the food front, etc)

Idk what I can say except that this game is amazing. First I'll point out the same thing everyone else has said, this game just is that much better than the hastily put together tripe other developers have been calling rpgs for what feels like ages. Fun bosses, a compelling story (if sad, hot dang I wish it wasn't so sad), stats that feel like they matter, gear that feels like it matters, the ability to blindly explore and find things without being beat over the head with orders to go look at all the pretty things (Some of the most breathtaking areas and fights are optional and entirely skippable/missable)

I can't believe the level of customization, being able to tailor your build and use items, summons, spells, ashes of war etc, to choose what level of difficulty you want to play at. Though this can cause some frustration as you explore
For instance, my first character I leveled only strength so I could use the greatsword asap, I could only do heavy rolls, I barely beat Margit, and couldn't handle Godrick (2nd and 3rd bosses respectively after the gold knight I refused to not fight first). I then decided that wasn't for me, and made a new character and decided to level my stats more evenly. I breezed through the first few bosses at a much lower level and generally had a great time
Then I discovered you could eat dragon hearts and transform (Kidna) into a dragon, breathing fire, using claws etc, needless to say I created a new new character cause I could not resist. And once I actually got the build going realized it was so easy I didn't even experience bosses the way I did with a sword, just watched a screen get enveloped in flame.
I now am playing again with handicaps, no spells/incantations, no summons, etc, to see what I missed in my first/best full playthrough. That I can do this and have a decently different experience is quite a magical thing these days

As for downsides, the same lack of quests and free form nature of the game means alot of things are missed, not just the "If you don't hit every single wall you'll miss a secret" and "Get into random coffins at waterfalls" types of things, but even some more basic questlines. To the point that I did eventually have to look things up. The Story is compelling vague, but also it'll take someone wiser than me to sus out the entire storyand waiting on that hurts me.
I have also heard there are issues with the game on computer, I haven't experienced most of them, but certainly invasions and team play have suffered due to disconnects

I like this and wanted to review it, I guess I can't just do that and not chat about it? It's fun, I like gathering, I like the crafting, the smelting (I think the ratio of copper and tin to make a single bronze ingot is weird, but mods take care of that), I like that travel is both through these cool waygates you can make, but also by ship, fighting sea serpents and such. I like it all

I believe the main thing I should mention for anyone looking, if you're hoping for something Spore like, with amazing mutations/adaptions, this isn't it.
Editing the rest for a more fair review. I wish the review system was on a 5 star scale or something. as before I'd have rated it a 2.5, so a negative review, and now I'd put it somewhere in the 3.5-4 range, it's enjoyable but not incredible in some way or aspect
I was very frustrated that this game wasn't what I thought it'd be at first. A game in which you could mutate and evolve to fit your playstyle. The different "mutations" are essentially just a second set of spells you can learn (Meaning you have two upgrade trees devoted to "magic" (Mutation and psionics). I feel the "Mutations" part was slapped on either because of the story, or to trick people into thinking the game is something it is not.
That being said, outside of this accidental or malicious misdirection, the game is fun, I've been enjoying it for several hours so far. I would highly recommend reading/watching stuff about the start of the game and how stats work before jumping into it. Magic isn't a replacement for melee/gun combat, so don't go trying to build a fully spellcaster. Make sure you understand what choosing a side in the conflict (Near the start) means to you before you side with one etc.

The game is fun on the surface, but the deeper you get in the more you realize it's all just that, surface level. The different mechanics you're introduced to seemingly don't matter. If Investigators escape with knowledge of what you're doing, it only leads to more investigators. What does heat do? Asides from slow down the "World Stage" minigame it doesn't seem to do much
There's also an issue of micro management that takes far too long to get automated (Or in some cases never does), you need to tell your minions what to do with each enemy/invader, clicking each, clicking your order, etc, until you've researched enough. You need to keep up with what missions you can do, balancing for, or ingoring, the heat mechanic which seemingly exists for no purpose but to slow you down if you ignore it.
The trap building mechanic sounds fun, but currently only works on weak investigators, not the strong ones you'd need traps for (Also since your minions will often get caught alongside said investigators, making quite a few leave or die).
I could keep going, but overall it's just... the game can be great, and if modding gets implemented I'd be excited to add some that balance the game. But as it is right now I could not recommend this game

So I'm asked to review the game again now that I have an additional 1138 hours in game. I feel like that says something about the game at least.
There are balance issues sure, and if you're invested in news about the game it's clear the devs don't play the game, or are really low MMR if they do. And they barely react to issues in game.
But it's still fun, and more importantly, it's got all the players, and a new isometric would need to go above and beyond to ever really unseat this game, so if you're looking for one currently this is the best option

Now, on the other side, the new player experience is probably bad at this point, the "free" perks you get don't assist you much, some are still good or great, but they just don't cover all your bases, there's no way to train asides from watching professionals etc

I still think you'll enjoy it if you're already invested enough to be looking at reviews. I highly recommend playing on both sides to figure out the game, even if you like one side more, playing both gives you a perspective, both on how the other side perceives a match, and the struggles both go through

It feels like a waiting game, perhaps I'm playing wrong, but half the time I look at everything available to me and think "Guess I just skip this turn huh?" While I enjoy managing resources and whatnot I do prefer a bit more interaction than I've found here
