Africa: Settlers should have alternative expansion options compared to historical European colonial expansion across the continents. The idea that I have to research the same technologies, with the same modifiers, playing Rwanda just for some border land conquest is pure hokum. The migration of the Boer should be handled mechanically, as well as some alt-history options for other types of migrations into decentralised states.

US: I'd love to see a Revolutionary War expansion. While the current start date is good for industrialisation, the Revolutionary War was really the pivot point of political reality up to modern day by reintroducing republicanism at large scale.
