Rimworld is a game of many layers, from simple colony management; to social hierarchies, to world conquest; to galactic conquest, from love to hate, from war to peace, from war-crimes to unwavering generosity.

It is a game I find myself able to immerse myself in the life of my colony, imagine myself in the shoes of my carefully engineered colonist as I go about my day to day life trying to survive in the harsh conditions that are thrown at me, my beloved and my friends (and not-so-friends).

While Vanilla Rimworld offers a fair bit to do, I felt the game was relatively lacking for my tastes; thus the modding happened and oh goodness it did not stop. But I'm happy it didn't, because it made me love the game in a way I couldn't otherwise.

The social aspect of the game is my favourite, making little families and watching them grow; my own little babies getting big and old to carry their weight, fall in love, fight for the colony and fit into their own place in the colony.

Every person matters, from the janitor who seems to hate everyone she meets and two-times people, to the chef who makes sure that everyone is fed, but is a bit too honest with what she says. The kindhearted woman who is deathly afraid of fires that seems to have a particular taste for human and xenohuman blood, to the shut-in miner who seems to find himself in every possible bad situation possible and needs replacement body parts all the time.

All events are happy, sad, fun, tragic. The crops have bloomed and we will have a feast! ...until a blight steals it all away, but that's fine; we've got stored supplies and we can hunt! ...but the animals are leaving for greener pastures and warmer climates due to it nearing -30 degrees celcius. We'll power through, no problems! We stay strong in our colony!

I genuinely love Rimworld, I have so much power to make a world I desire and fight for my place in it, I love immersing myself in it to get the full experience of the emotions in it.

I find all DLCs to be valueable in their own way, while I am not the biggest fan of Royalty, it offers some things I really love; but I never have to make it a core part of my game. Ideology and Biotech has both been a boon to me, especially the latter; since it added one feature I really adore: Families.

Mods I make great use of, QoL, textures, game mechanics, furniture, buildings, weaponry, armours; there's tons to add and tons more that comes every day. The existence of mods in Rimworld causes its lifespan to become enormous compared to what I'd otherwise find it to be.

I strongly recommend Rimworld to anyone who likes strategy games in general, but also to those of us who aren't so keen on the zergfest some strategy games seems to adopt. Also for those of us who love the Sims styled games, but want a bit more in the gameplay in a certain way.

Old:
I had my character and my boyfriend's character fight a thrumbo.
It stabbed my left leg and it exploded off, then chopped off my right shoulder.
I recommend it, despite being crippled for life.

Interesting, I hear people talk about this game now and again. I think I'll give it a go on a sale in the future.
