State of Decay 2 made a huge step forward, comparing to the first game. It contains Campaign with 4 different maps and two expansions - Heartland and Daybreak. Each mode can be played solo or in co-op, and all together they provide players with many hours of fun. The game might give you a feeling that some features could be improved, and open world - expanded with more places to visit and random missions to complete. However, it's still a gem for those who love survival genre, since it offers a very unique experience.

Campaign

There is no deep story, however all characters have their traits and background. You set up a base and choose a leader among your team members. It can be a Builder, Trader, Warlord or Sheriff. The choice you make will lead you to a different path, as each leader has their own goals to accomplish. Along the way you will meet other survivors, recruit them to your community and gather resources to expand your base. You can play as any member of your clan, helping them to develop their skills, but you have to be careful: they only have one life. Once dead, the personage is gone forever. Side missions will keep you entertained, but eventually the campaign comes to an end. As soon as you build all necessary facilities and discover the map, you can move to another location or start a game with new community. Each playthrough will give you a bonus for the next one, but I won't uncover all secrets.

Heartland

This is a story mode which has a little connection with original State of Decay. We come back to the map where the story of the first game was set, but with more features. The gameplay here is a bit different, but not less enjoyable.

Daybreak

Or simply horde mode. You have to survive several waves of zombies while trying to keep your technician (and yourself) from getting killed. This expansion is pretty challenging, and what's more important, you can unlock some good stuff to use later in the campaign.

Overall, I think it'a great survival game with overrun by zombies open world. And it has a good message for us: we're stronger together when working as a team, because each one of us has important talents and skills.
