The Ancient Gods - Part One is simply put, an extraordinary expansion to Doom Eternal. It takes everything I loved about the main game and simply... added more. Not just MORE demons, but huge, sprawling levels, new enemies, new music, completely new environments, new challenges, and heck even more skins/achievements.

Essentially I think that if you loved Doom Eternal and just want more to play, you should get this DLC. The first level alone took about 1.5 hours to beat for me on Nightmare, and total about 5.5 hours. I also loved how it brought me back to Doom 16 with the UAC facilities. Combine that with huge replayability with extra life mode/Ultra Nightmare/Secrets/Slayer Gates/Secret Encounters/Unlocking Skins, I think it is absolutely worth it. The story as well is quite something... I won't spoil it but if you like the lore in addition to the gameplay like me, it's very worth it for that as well.

It is worth mentioning this DLC is quite a bit harder than the base game. The first level is probably on par with Final Sin or the Master Levels and it ramps up HARD from there in the 2nd level. I would say be prepared to turn down the difficulty, and this is coming from someone who has beaten Ultra Nightmare multiple times and never plays lower than Nightmare. I am definitely going to go for the gold skin on the DLC too but first playthrough kicked my ass.

Lastly the music - David Levy and Andrew Hulshult are a really complementary pair I think. Andrew has the sick guitar riffs and David nails the deep synth tracks. I liked recognizing both their styles throughout and I think it was overall really well done. Only complaint was that the music was pretty quiet at times so I am going to adjust my sound effects settings. I initially thought they didn't have actual fast paced combat themes but I think I just didn't notice it with the crazy action and quiet music volume.

Anyway I would 100% recommend this DLC if you, like me, have loved Doom Eternal and sorely need new content. I forsee myself playing this for weeks to come learning the levels and beating all the challenges. It's a wonderful, challenging addition to an already amazing game.

Yep I agree. It breathed fresh air into the game for me!

I am glad the dlc is hard. I felt the base games combat dance kinda got monotonous at times. The two new spirits enemies kinda shake that dance up which I loved.

I'm only halfway through with the DLC, but I agree wholeheartedly, as I love it so far.

I'm glad you agree with the difficulty going up fast; chapter one was fine, two got harder especially Betruger tower arena but man, chapter three! That's a big crescendo!
I'll finish last chapter later tomorrow, anyway it's a great DLC indeed: pretty solid content/quality!
