Great alternative to other ARPGs with tons of new content being released all the time. What's not to like?

This is a great game, and it's a worthy successor to The Dark Descent. Sure, Rebirth isn't perfect, but it makes up for its shortcomings with it's stunning environments and terrifying atmosphere. Some critics have said that the level of immersion and sense of dread didn't carry over from The Dark Descent. Personally, I disagree. This game had me on the edge of my seat almost the entire time, and I couldn't help but press forward endlessly despite my fear. That said, there were moment's that felt a bit stale toward the end, and there were some plot elements that came across as cheesy rather than provoking the intended, sympathetic response. All in all it was an incredible experience, and uncovering the disturbing reality that is the story of Amnesia: Rebirth is not something I will soon forget. It makes Alexander's labyrinthine, torture fun-house in Brennenburg Castle look like child's play.

Give it a try!

One of the most immersive, savage and brutal experiences in gaming. Not for the faint of heart.

Early Access Review
I have to admit that my expectations were vastly exceeded by this game. I was expecting some meciocre, hack-job rendition of the original that left you yawning and pointing out glaring dissapointments in design flaw, but I ended up being blown away by what I found in Black Mesa. I could not stop pplaying once I started

Not only did the developers capture the feeling of the original, they created their very own take on the Half Life universe. The obvious attention to detail and determination that went into creating Black Mesa really shine through as you work your way through the lab. Apart from the obvious bug issues, I see no reason not to play this other than the fact that it is not yet finished. If you are a Half Life fanatic, you will probably love Black Mesa.

I did come accross several bugs during my playthrough. Based on some of the responses I saw that others had already pointed most of them out. It would be difficuly to say that this factor did not affect the gameplay experience somewhat, but I didn't ever come across anything truly game breaking. It's obvious that these would be fixed in the final version of the game, so they are easy to look past and still enjoy playing it.

Now that all the negative stuff is out of the way, I gotta say... Black Mesa is probably the best remake of any game I have ever played. This is a remake of a 20 year old game on a 15 year old engine, but that didnt stop my jaw from dropping at the graphical and nostalgic experience that the devs created. The Source engine gives it the feel and control that you get from HL 2, and the visual similarities that Source brings couldn't be accomplished in a different medium. Recreations of the original zones would leave me grinning as I explored the underground facility, while I was left in awe by the new content that had been added to the story. The intricate and deadly puzzles, ambushes and environments that have been added to the game are impressive to say the least. Everything has been done with a practiced and professional touch. You can really tell that a lot of personality and passion went into the level design.

I love the original Half Life, but this game gripped me unlike any game other than Half Life 2 did the first time I played it. This feels like the true prequel to HL 2. PLAY THIS IF YOU LOVE HALF LIFE!!!
