Recently got this on sale on a bit of a whim.
Its a proper hidden gem. Very fun and simple.
Feels like the perfect blend of mechanics to make it fun.

Very epic.

Great engine, good game, but with a certain loneliness.

Its fun building, and tbh fun destroying stuff you've built.
There's great creations by people on the workshop.

But to me it just lacks something...
The experience feels desolate. Empty. Maybe that's just me. If you have friends to play with it becomes a better experience I'm sure (and have experience in the past). But alone for me it can feel a bit bleak at times, maybe because of a lack of NPCs.

That being said I can't knock what is there. Its good fun. I enjoy it.

This game can be entertaining.... But heres the rule with GamesWorkshop Video Games.....

They almost always discontinue it before it ever gets going... only to release a slightly improved, yet overpriced version.

Play it safe... Wait for a sale/Sequel

All in all the game is good, but its discontinued.

Okay, lets write a first impression review....
I've just downloaded the Free Trial (14/12/18) to see what its all about.
I WILL point out that I have played ARMA 3 with enough mods to play a "DayZ" and it was very enjoyable.
However this game is something of a mix with me.
The many ARMA 3 Dayz mods make a fun experience, whether it being immersed in solo or co op zombie survival, it definately ticks a box with me.... After watching Frankieonpc's videos it was almost as good as it seemed when he plays...
I wish I could fully say the same about this.
So, First impressions:
I loaded into a world of what I would consider to be very good visuals and shaders etc... The animations seemed very good too, giving it a realistic feel. "Whats all the fuss about," I thought to myself. I found a friend along the way and together we explored for a short while, experiencing the fun of taunts and gestures ingame.... looting the odd building here and there, the usual stuff you would expect from a game like this. Then we found some zombies. Zombies in ARMA 3 are MODS.... Fan made and they work far better than anything like this.... In DAYZ they hardly ever notice you and when they do they glitch towards you very buggily then stop infront of you in which time you can disect them with your fists or an axe (or something of the sorts). In ARMA 3 zombies add adrenaline and action to your game, whereas here they only add mild humour at best. Moving further on we encountered someone else, like me who had just downloaded the game and was trying to work out how it played etc.... Then we encountered a hostile player. Or should I say "Eldritch Abomination", yes this player had no physical playermodel bar a small glitched backpack holding a gun. Fun Times. At this point we chased him on only to get shot and secrete some mild red fluid from out backsides. This concludes my first foray into DayZ.....

By all means try it this weekend, it may be your thing... but this is my experience I wanted to share with you on how it played out for me. Genuinely the visuals are pretty darn hecking good, but they just need a bit of tender love put into the AI to make it play out at is full potential!

Its a great game, but its a shame you can't properly buy it now: GO TO SPECIAL EDITION xD

Also: You can tell a great game when the DLC costs more than it currently does..........

Seriously still gold though. Great for playing with overmodded complex setups that Special Edition can't yet handle/support (e.g. Tropics of Skyrim Or Star Wars Overhaul.)

To begin this review I just want to say WOW!!!!
To consider that this is a free mod it is very well made and especially because this is in a really old game engine.

Whilest it is short, it is quality. Quality not quantity, right!

With the soundtrack being a synth-rock type genre, it really feels like an old Arnie movie!!!
Anyway, on to the pros and cons;

Pros;

- The story is quite good, while it is simple, it is a fun story to play out, you really feel like an epic action hero/villain.
- The soundtrack is awesome, and it makes you feel like your in a 1980s action movie.
- The old style of graphics feel fun and nostalgic.
- The puzzles aren't too difficult.

Cons;

-Can be a tad bit challenging even on easy difficulty. Its nothing rage quit worthy, but you may have to re-take a
few combat sequences.

[EDIT: If you own Half Life 1, get it, its not exactly gonna clog up your hard drive!]

All in all considering that it is free it is an awesome mod!
9.5/10

This review will be separated into several parts and will be generally spoiler free.
Part 1: Quests.
I generally feel like this DLC could have had a few more quests, as there was only about 1-2 hours worth.
The quests were interesting, with a few decisions that infuenced ending and a bit of a plot twist at the end.

Part 2: Gameplay mechanics.
The new mechanics were quite interesting as you can now create cool and epic robots that can have explosive miniguns and fat man nuke launchers.
I personally enjoyed creating robots from films and TV shows, to the best of my ability.
One fun feature is that they can do tasks in settlements, this was especially fun as I made a town run by robots.

Part 3: Conclusion.
Some of the mechanics can get a bit boring after a while as building an army of robots is fun until you realize that you
can only have one as a companion.
Some of the features would be nice in a multiplayer environment, but unfortunatly I don't think there will be a multiplayer dlc. Generally this DLC is quite fun and if you are a big fallout fan like me I would recommend it.

Early Access Review
A really good and fun game.
It makes good use of the cute/anime horror style, giving it a funny, yet creepy atmosphere.
The jump scares make you jump a lot, because there is no warning unlike other horror games
