The control mechanics combined with the "ball" dirt makes it unsatisfying and difficult to operate excavator machinery in my opinion. Therefore the refund.

The game feels very early into E.A. phase, but even though barebones, in my short time ran very well.

---

EDIT 1: I have tried the beta since there were news of "next gen terrain" and it is so much better. Playing more before i edit this.

---

EDIT 2: I must say with the next-gen system in the beta, this is faaar more enjoyable, even with a few minor bugs in terrain handling during dumping.

What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gem this is. Such a relaxing and satisfying little builder sandbox. The music. The artstyle. The impecable voice acting. The atmosphere. Pure immersion coc***e, if you ask me. This is just such an amazingly innovative game, it should be a crime not to try it!

I suspect it would be quite short, and replayability wise maybe a bit too simmilar to previous playthroughs. I have high hopes on the factions being more interactive, and/or there being optional "quest-ish" content to explore the lore of this amazingly crafted universe.

My only real gripe so far: the insect-companion fighters have annoyingly high volume, and you will hear them constantly while you build, simply because how the surveyer airship follows you around, with all of your companions. But it is only these insect-like fighters that get abnoxious.

Overall, unbelievable, innovative, bug-free, immensly immersive and relaxing gem of a game!

Early Access Review
So i had this question, that I answered on the forums, and I think it fits very well as a review for the current state of the game, 1 week after launch. I hope this helps:

Originally posted by goblin 08:
I have never played the game, but I read some of the reviews and I though people were in LOVE with this game. Why are there mixed reviews? I see some people say "pay to win" or "feels like a rip-off" or "they want to make this a mobile game", but I haven't seen anything really about the game. Are these true?

Because the game is in a difficult situation, as of right now. Even for early access given the price tag in my opinion. I still play it from time to time, and avoid just complaining on the forums. I try my best to have civil and productive debates, that provide actual feedback to devs and community. Let's dig deeper if you are interested:

The prices

Given the price-tags of all the editions, the sad truth is: people usually expect the higher the price, the better the game, therefore it is judged harsher.

I do not say I subscribe to this train of thought, but i can see it affect my rationality as well as others that are either over-invested, or outraged.

In my opinion, the review score is justified, as the products stands right now. Here is why:

There are a lot of fantastic foundations here, like following

  • Feel of the guns - They feel heavy, punchy and despite the sound: Definitely not a toy.
  • The movement system (on stable servers). You have a good variety of control, and you feel like there is weight to your character, without it being overly cumbersome.
  • The open world nature, which has not been done like this before.
  • The awesome visual design, with a fresh take on a new landscape for the tactical shooter market.
  • The depth of an authentic tactical shooter (ammo types, guns, customization etc.)
  • The list goes on...

However, there are core, foundational issues too, that to be honest do pull the overall game-score down heavily. Such as:

  • The now (hopefully) patched headless-gear loss bug, requiring full account wipe
  • Poor net-code/server stability resulting in big hit registration issues, rubber banding and stuttering.
  • poor save-structure of player profile, resulting in gear loss, in a gear based game when a disconnect or server/client crash occurs (not in every occasion, but often).
  • The unoptimised nature of the game, requiring AI upscaling and frame generation to run at an acceptable frame-rate.
  • And more, less critical issues...

The fresh memories of E.A. failures

Given the recent history of Early Access games in the market, it is also reasonable to assume, that the situations where players have lost investment and/or flat out have been scammed, I believe this provides additional pressure.

The release of "Early Access Release Date Announcement" Trailer

It also did not help the situation, that devs released this trailer, which currently has 257k views (more then the launch trailer!), which showcases the game as "flawless".

Please bare with me: They have clipped numerous streamers out of context (and I do not blame them for it. This is obviously NOT a malicious act, as they seemed simply exited about this feedback). Here streamers only said positive things about the game, however the context of nuance has been cut, and presented the game from a flawless perspective, which does not provide a full picture. Obviously this was simply a mistake from inexperienced studio, however it still had created a ripple effect, when the game released.

Here is a link to it if you want to watch it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8DyVR3bPG8

Final thoughts

As I think I summed this up, the potential is undoubtedly there, however the community here seems to have settled on a similar review score as you see described here. Mixed.

Don't just assume people are stupid, and jump to conclusions. The game has a foundation with a few cracks, and I am sure if the devs continue trucking on, this review rating will be a lot more positive in no time. Have faith and patience in both the devs and your fellow community members.

[Ctrl-C] [Ctrl-V] content is not worth the insane pricetag. Glad to see bethesda never changes. Modders already from day1 had to start fixing some of the dumbest and most obnoxious optimization and design choices I have seen this year.

Expect to download mods, A LOT OF MODS.
Or suffer in agony of this duck-taped wreck of an ancient engine trying to run a spacegame, just as optimized as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Fallout 76.

Btw. I heard you love to save every 5-10 minutes, or this potato code-game will crash on you, and you'll loose all your progress.

While we're on the roll, hope you love save-breaking bugs too. You will get bricked from a quest at some point. I already experienced that in 3 different quests. Glad I have 100 save files, that take up gigabytes of space.

Gj bethesda. I cannot believe they have 76% on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ steam.

The only reason to play now, is to get you money's worth, outa this stinking pile, if you were just as dumb as me, to trust Todd "Long-Nose" Howard...

Mods are not supposed to be mandatory, nor is it the community's job to fix your ♥♥♥♥ code, Bethesda. Modding is supposed to be a fun lil' hobby for people who want to alter content or add new content, not bugfixes, that you greedy bastards'll probably monetize in the future.

I can purely speak as a PvE player. Not in this game for the PvP much, and it's awesome, and free? Are you kidding...

What a gem, berried under troves of games on steam. It's basically CoD Zombies with ACTUALLY decent code. No frequent crashes, bugs or netcode stupidity. In my 20 ish hours, I crashed a total of 2 times. Once on the menu and once ingame, and was quickly able to rejoin my teammates, and continue as nothing happened.

A gem from the lovely Ukrainian devs, TAKE MY MONEY <3

Update at 69h ;)

PvE extraction is just buttersmooth. Recomend highly getting into the Shatterline Discord to coordinate with your teammates, that way this blast of a game becomes insanely fun. Especially once you get the hang of the movement and the layout of the map, so that you can speedrun the map with tha bois and gals.

I usually play games to escape people's scary unpredicttability and shadowy, uknowable motives...

However, I can no longer eskape them in BG3... Let's see how much more naive I really am, then I think... Baldur's Gate shall reveal that, for sure...

On the real side tho...

I am no DnD fan or lore master.
I was not a Larian fanboy.
Been a gamer since '99.

All I played before of CRPG's propper, was DoS2. Wich was a great game, but this? From a mere AA studio? Holy, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Lucian's balls! (Yes, I still remember the phrase ;))

And I, good sir think of this...

Is a gods damn blessing. The detail, and love poured into this... Not to mention the immersion... Wow... After playing probs. ~500 titles, I have never been so immersed, feeling like the world is alive with both characters, choises and consequences. Especially unforseen ones...

I find it shocking, that I am spending as much time grubbling on mere dialogue choices, as I usually spend on leveling up, and picking skill points in other RPG's (that's still the case here... believe me...).

1000% worth every damn penny so far, 25h in.

Well. Now that I've read about the devs' plans to use FACEIT instead of EAC as their anti-cheat, i completely changed my mind.

There aint' no way in hell I am downloading a rootkit like that on my pc.

You should punish the cheaters, not the players. I consider any program, willing to bulldoze the ♥♥♥♥ out of my privacy, way too far over my red line. Even if that means a bit fewer cheaters in my games, since the price I will have to pay for that will be blown out of proportions. And I thought ya'll wold stop on the voice-recording policy, since that was already a foot inside the red line. (Not to mention, that you are in breach of GDPR (Citizen of EU here), since you do not state for how long the data is kept, and do not provide us with a means to request our data to be deleted).

Be aware, if you wish to have any semblence of privacy when buying this once FACEIT is implemented.

PS! Since you have not warned about a kernel-level anti-cheat being implemented into the game, in breach of all user privacy, I will fight for my refund. Because I would never in my life would have bought this product, if I was aware of your plans to implement the FACEIT spyware. Especially it being Saudi-Public Fund owned.

|---------------------------------------------|
HANDS OFF MY KERNEL, "FACEIT" THIEF!
MY DATA, MY RULES.
|---------------------------------------------|

...pre-Faceit news:

Anyone looking for a true Battlefield throwback, must buy this. 11/10 game.

Indie devs pulling the weight of the whole industry, while EA, Activision and Blizzard compete, based on who can sink their franchise first.

Thank you, for this masterpiece of chaos!

In short.

Yeah, that'll be a hard refund for me. Hopefully in another 3 years this can be considered "Early Access" viable in my book... I just have too much E.A. crap akin to this in my library to subdue my feelings for this game. I reeeeeally want this game to be amazing, but in reality it just isn't there yet. At all.

Not recomended, unless you pay less then 5$, and accept no guarantees.

Rable-rant:

This game is not at all ready for Early Access... This is more akin of an alpha, maybe a beta.

I cannot believe this took 3 years, and still has so much "clunk" in it. Including questionable gameplay choices, tons of death-bugs (like even in the tutorials, if you jump onto anything that makes the game freak out) as well as very poor perfomance.

I ran it on a 3080ti, i7-9700k and a high-speed (2 years ago) M.2 SSD. The FPS was all-over the place. Aywhere from low 20's to high 60's, avarage was ~40 fps with maximum quality (Look, there is a reason I bought a 3080, and I refuse to spend hours tweaking to find the culprit for this abysmal performance on 1080p@144Hz monitor). It also takes ~2 minutes every time the game decides to autosave. Manual saves take 30 seconds tho, for some reason...

Even turning off full-screen optimizations and overriding high-dpi scaling did not yeild any significant results, however I did experience less frame drops.

Considering the state of this, I am amazed the other reviews on this game are so positive... As I would argue, that this, exact type of game is my nieche genre. Not to mention how much acceptance I have shown in the past for E.A. games...

I would definetly recomend being very cautious with this one, if you mean to invest you hard-earned dollaridoos into this...
