For the longest time, I wanted a "Super" sequel to this game with the same ambition as Super Meat Boy. Obviously that never happened, but I will always have a soft spot for the game regardless. Such a fresh and interesting twist to what would otherwise be a bog standard clone of Super Mario Bros.

It's also one of the few games that gave me real nightmares as a kid!

There was a time when I played a 24/7 server of SpeedKart.

That server is gone now, and every time I think about this game again, my soul takes a moment to grieve the loss once more.

One of the biggest guilty pleasures on my Steam library. This game was intended for mobile devices, and thus the lack of polish is obvious. But to be totally honest, I think the gameplay and cutscenes have held up fine. I wasn't a kid who went naive for a shítty mobile game; this well and truly earned its place in my childhood memories.

But you probably have no idea what I'm talking about if you didn't grow up with Battle Bears like I did, in which case you should just ignore this and carry on with your day.

I'm sorry but this game fúcking sucks. I can certainly respect its purpose of showcasing the source engine's technical prowess, but from a gameplay standpoint, it is a mess. I can't go fast like in Half-Life 1 because I'll drain my sprint meter. I can count the amount of satisfying guns on one hand. I'd say 60-70% of the enemies I fight across the entire game are humanoid soldiers. There are a lot of times where I have to wait around until NPCs finish their dialogue, essentially being unskippable cutscenes. And the less said about the vehicle sections, the better.

If you want to experience the Half-Life IP in the source engine, please play Black Mesa or Entropy Zero 2 instead. Those are designed to be games first, tech demos later.

The best kart racer on Steam, until the fated day that CTR Nitro Fueled makes it way onto the platform. Incredible tracks which tend to change per lap, a sizable character roster, lots of singleplayer content, online with splitscreen, and a very high skill ceiling. Not much else you could ask for out of the genre.

Personally though, I still prefer Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart.

Hunt Down the Freeman, but if Hunt Down the Freeman had a fully realized vision instead of being an astronomical fúck up. And it's Half-Life 2, but if Half-Life 2 wasn't a complete pile of shít. And it's probably the best tie-in between the Half-Life and Portal story arcs.

I don't need to explain much more because the game is free. Just pick it up.

I badly want to give this game a "Not Recommended", because I hate a lot of things about the main singleplayer campaign. It tries too hard to be funny and dramatic, fails to retain the lonely atmosphere which Portal 1 mastered, has dumbed-down level design, and is plagued with loading screens.

However, I must accept that the game isn't outright bad as a whole package. There is an entire other campaign for multiplayer, and an easy-to-use level editor which generates an endless amount of content. This may be a solid deal for you, but personally, I will just keep replaying Portal 1.

My most anticipated game of 2018 was this. A mobile game in spirit (even having characters from obscure mobile games), but somehow having acquired a recognizable roster of indie characters. The warning signs were there from day one, with the autojumping gimmick being made very clear in promotional material, but I foolishly chose to ignore them.

But with the existence of Fraymakers, I can safely forget about this game and peacefully move on.

A game that is perfect in... almost... every way, and well deserving of its long-term success of a franchise. I don't need to explain why I love this thing; you can see the love and care put into it from a single screenshot.

So what's with the "almost"? I emphasize that word because the soundtrack of the base game is extremely overrated. It's certainly ambitious in what it's trying to do, but only a small fraction of it is what I would deem catchy and worth listening to outside the game. Fortunately, the music would later find its footing with the DLC.

Early Access Review
I really wish Steam reviews didn't censor profanity, even if you've turned off the filter used for other portions of the service. There are very few games in which their very existence incites such visceral anger from me.

I will just say that MacDGuy, through his legal enforcement of GMod Tower's shutdown, is one of the most reprehensible developers I have ever seen. He's right up there with Nintendo in terms of being spiteful against loyal consumers. I don't care how much has changed with this game from when I last played it, because my disgust will remain eternal.
