This entire series is something special. It's my favorite series of all time and I don't say that lightly at all.

For some background, I actually didn't start with Trails in the Sky. I started with Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel 2 aka Trails 6 and 7. I adored those games and they quickly became my favorite games of all time, Cold Steel 2 being the only game to ever make me physically shed a tear. So naturally, I decided to go back and check out the rest of the series, starting with Trails in the Sky.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, these games are phenomenal.

I'm not saying this for just Trails in the Sky, I mean the Trails series as a whole. the first 9 Trails games all take place within the span of 4 years on the same continent of Zemuria. Because of this, they are all so connected with each other, it's impossible to truly separate them into different sections. Characters introduced in Trails in the Sky make a notable and important appearance in Trails of Cold Steel 2, 6 games later. Concepts and arcs hinted at in Trails in the Sky the 3rd like that of the gralsritter and the North Ambrian disaster develop further in the current games. It's a living, breathing world where nearly every NPC is named and basically no one is gonna rant to you about your own exploits as if the world revolves around you.

This is especially seen in the collectible books throughout the series. Each game has a set of books you can collect and actually read; nearly all of which are amazing reads on par with the main story itself. Especially the rarest collectible books which are traded at the end of the game for an ultimate weapon, those books being Carnelia, Gambler Jack, etc... There's an amazing video by killscottkilll on youtube demonstrating just how important and brilliant the supplementary writing of Trails is right here

I could ramble on and on about this series for basically the length of an academy paper, but I'll spare you the read.

tl;dr Trails is a series that has probably the most intricate and well crafted world I have ever seen in any medium, transitioning perfectly from game to game with brilliant set up for characters, concepts, arcs, and themes. The characters are all merely people living on the continent of Zemuria rather than the continent living around them, and that makes them and the world itself feel alive, and you will not regret playing it, starting with Trails in the Sky.
