kinda bland game, filled with janky ♥♥♥♥ and bugs, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of mods if ur into that, ultimately lovable game. you either put 1.5hrs in this game or 150+ no inbetween, u love it or u say it is trash and if u love it u still say it is trash, anyway I wonder what all this starfield buzz is all about

Stay calm and collected because the adrenaline rush that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up gives could put you in crutches.
The tagline stays forever true, you really must work together, listen to the vets and learn from them. mastering the set-up to alarms and understanding the terminal will put you 40% done with the level, the rest is down to mechanical skill and boy do you need it, especially for missions lower down.

Reseña de acceso anticipado
People need to stop treating early access like full release, it's unfinished, it says that on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tin. don't expect it to be bugless (and this game has wayy less bugs than most other early access games) there's lot's of content that's clearly missing, the sound is really low quality (if that's a setting I missed then tell me). The base building is really nice although it gets veeery finnecky, it's a bit hard to get into just the right spot to be able to chop a log in half or make a strut but overall it's a very fun system, except for the running back and forth collecting logs (hey that's what kelvin's for. he's really slow at it but 2 people chopping wood is faster than 1 especially when ur first base is gonna need like 50+ logs)

30€ might be a little bit expensive for what this title can provide right now, and lots of elements are tedious but I think a lot of the people in the comments are overreacting. The game gives off an overall inadequate ammount of polish but you're buying into a pre-release version of the game (remind yourself of what early access means)

Overall I'm enjoying this game, get a friend to play with to make the boring bits less boring and you have great game to sink 200 hours into building a fortress or killing the dumb ai. The story itself I cannot speak on since it doesn't seem like it's been put into the game yet? don't take this game too seriously and just try to have fun with the tools it provides you.
in my 17 hours I only encountered like 6 bugs and only 2 of them were serious (not being able to interact with anything until I opened up the trading menu and some animations just failing and I had to be stuck there for at least 30 seconds before the game gave up on those actions)

AWESOME 9/10.
(discl. I did play the demo for about 2 hours before pre-ordering)
TL;DR
Pros
  1. VERY replayable
  2. Simple and Tight controls
  3. Beautiful pixelart and art direction
  4. Clear sound design
Cons
  1. somewhat content-sparse
  2. somewhat worse experience with keyboard vs. controller
Worth the money? OH HELL YEAH

Short description
Dome Keeper is a rougelite survival miner where you have to balance your time and resources between protecting your dome and expanding your capabilities.
you defend your dome from waves of enemies and use the downtime to mine for resources.
Controls
After starting up the game the first thing that will take your attention is the.. well.. different controlway. It doesn't shy away from the standards in modern control-shemes in any real way but what will take you aback is just how simple it is.
My initial expectations were something akin to spelunky but with a jetpack, instead you are always floating and can go in any given direction, no falling.
Another surprise was that there is no mine button... in a mining game.. instead you bump into the walls to start drilling them. This put me off at first but quickly grew on me!
any resources you mine out you can tether to yourself with one button and un-tether with another.
so you have 3 basic controls (if you count movement as one control, if not then it's 6) and 5 more for more situational stuff like, choosing between battle and upgrade in the dome as well as any special gadgets you get in any given run but we'll get to that later! for now just remember how simple the controls are compared to other contemporary games
Gameplay
The objective of the game is to find a relic (or to score points in Prestige mode but I will ignore that for now)
The relic is hidden in the deepest part of the mine and there fore you will first have to find it by digging for it!
You win then you get it back to your dome and you lose if your dome is destroyed
to dig you simply bump into the rock to pick at it with your drill. Along your way you will find 3 different resources: Iron(square), Quartz(triangle) and Water(circle). These resources will be used to upgrade and broaden your assortment of both information and tools. Iron is the Jack-of-all-trades resource and you will need a lot of it, nearly every upgrades uses iron. Quartz is the reinforcement resource as well as the rarest one of them all, quartz will upgrade your damage resistance as well as repair any damage done to your dome but there is only a very limited quantity of it on the map. Water is the gadget resource, it is used to upgrade the different gadgets you have and find during the course of a run.
So.. what are gadgets anyway?
you start every run with one of 3 gadgets, either a shield generator which protects your base from a bit of damage at the start of every wave, an "orchard" (really it's just one tree) which produces a fruit which gives you buffs for a duration or a repellent tank that, when activated, delays the next wave by some time.
During the course of a run you will stumble upon 2 or more small relics which give you a choice between two different gadgets (or you can turn them into Quartz if you need it), these gadgets are utilities that make your life easier, mostly when mining but some are good for combat also!
Every upgrade for a gadget uses Water and Iron but are usually cheaper compared to upgrades for the dome or the character.
Combat
Every minute or so, you will hear some beeps telling you "Enemies are approaching", you must hurry back to the top, back to your dome (frankly, you should have already been there when the beeping started) go into the little computer, chose BATTLE and now you have one button to shoot and two direction to steer your turret, right now there are only two types of turret:
Laser, the simple one, aim with left and right then hold down until the monsters die
Sword, swing it from side to side to kill enemies near to your dome or launch it and control it's trajectory with left and right, sort of like steering a space ship.
You don't have to kill all the monsters but if you don't they will kill your dome and KAPUT, game over.
once you have retrieved the big relic also called "The relic bomb" a final onslaught wave will begin and you will probably not kill most of the enemies on your first go but that's okay! once your health reaches a low point the relic bomb you just collected will explode killing all the monsters and GG you just completed a run and unlocked new stuff!
Postgame
After completing a run you will be given a choice between two things to unlock, either a new dome weapon, a new gadget or a new or a new mode (I believe the choices of gadgets, weapons and modes will be expanded as time goes on)
You will also unlock new environments(backgrounds and color palettes) to play in which are randomly selected when you start a game as well as unlocking different cave sizes and different parameters you can play with to customize or play around with your experience
Complaints
  • The game just released at the time of writing this and I am still having a ton of fun with everything in this game, even the details which are in the trailer but which I didn't put here as to not, I guess, "spoil" them or whatever but I do feel the game still doesn't have all that much content Don't get me wrong! the content that is there is great and creates great replayability and variation in every run and I know that the developer has a lot of cool things planned but for now, as is, there is a fairly limited amount of content in the game (this is just something I think you as a consumer should be aware of but I wholeheartedly believe is not the biggest deal in the world)
  • Another small complaint I have is that you can't control the turret with your mouse, which I think should be an option for keyboard players as it could make the experience somewhat worse

Conclusion
Dome keeper is a beautiful game with simplicity at the core of it's design which ties everything together in a way that only an indie game could. From the fact that controls are so incredibly simple compared to other contemporary games to each resource being a distinct simple shape. all these little details in the simplicity of the design of this game that makes it intuitive and fun to play and something I recommend everyone should at least give a shot (I mean the demo is free and takes 25 seconds to download!)

I Thank you for sparing the time to read my review! <3 now if you don't mind me I shall buy a box of chocolates and head over to RawFury's hq which I live surprisingly close by to! Cheers!
