Slow paced. No hand holding. Plenty of secrets and puzzles.

Early Access Review
I bought the game in late 2014, before it came to steam, and it's a game I've come back to at least once every couple of weeks since then. It's got great replay value, and each update has brought more and more things to explore.

I am a particular fan of the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, and the game evokes a strong lovecraftian sense of horror, brought out even further by the text being presented in the style of a first person journal.

The theme of the game really draws you in and, from reading interviews, I saw that it was influenced by Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, which I decided to pick up. It has a lot of powerful imagery, particularly in conjuring the sense of being utterly alone in the jungle, with just a thin barrier of trees between you and the incomprehensibly vast wilderness. That detachment from civilisation comes through incredibly well in The Curious Expedition, especially in the descriptions of the campsite at night - the alien sounds, the foreign smells, the endless darkness - it all serves to immerse you in that unfamiliar world.

I highly recommend this game to all who will listen, and I look forward to discovering all the secrets in the updates to come.
