Still fairly new to this game but I can already see massive potential. VRChat is my main VR platform and I have hundreds of hours there. Tried out Resonite cause it looks intriguing and a friend of mine praises it constantly. It's not perfect by any means but fun in it's current form and offers an experience no other platform provides. I will compare Resonite a lot to VRChat in this review, but I really do appreciate both games and both have a place in this world.

Pros and Cons:

First the bad:

- Badly optimised (for now). Right now I get 40 FPS with my PC (pretty good PC) and that's fairly average from what I have heard in the community (the game relies way more on your CPU than your GPU for reasons that a more qualified person should be explaining). For comparison's sake, I easily reach 90 FPS at least(!) in VRChat. However, the small team behind Resonite is actively working on optimising the game as we speak. It's the current big thing on their roadmap so what I am saying here may very well be outdated within the next few weeks/months.

- The UI is pretty meh. It's not the biggest of issues, but I can 100 % see this driving away new users when they first hop into the game and Resonite users should understand that if they really want the best for their platform. The UI is heavily customisable (as are most things in Resonite), but this is of no use to a new user. A new user wouldn't know how to use those features. As with most things mentioned here, this is on the devs' radar though. They have overhauled the settings menu for example and that one is noticably more up to standard with other platforms and from what I can tell they are always looking into possible ways of improving the rest of the UI. Besides, it's not like unusable or anything. It just looks and feels clunky. Resonite users live in their own bubble though and it's really leading to a noticable echo chambre.

- The game appears dead to a new user even though it's really not(?). Most users of Resonite are in private worlds. And when I say most, I really do mean most. When you open the worlds menu and look for active instances you may see like 10 people or something like that, even though in the main menu it says there's like 200 people online in total.

- The community can be pretty rude (if you also like VRChat). There's an unreasonable amount of hate towards VRChat users. "Looking down upon" and "belittling" describes it quite well. This can be encountered both in-game, but also on their official Discord and in their chat during Twitch streams. This purely comes from the community though. The devs themselves are annoyed as well by this behaviour. I get that people can quickly become defensive about something they love and wanna protect, but all it takes to receive mean/weird remarks is just saying that you like both platforms... That really shouldn't trigger such a negative response in people.

And the good:

- The community is at the same time one of the kindest and most willing to help ones. Seriously, there's an entire mentorship program thingy where people have little green icons above their head to let new players know that they are approachable if they have any issues or questions.

- You can do (almost) whatever you want at any time. This is something that VRChat can not compete with in any way shape or form. Don't like that wall? Change it's texture in-game. Wanna add clothing to your avatar? Just drag-and-drop the clothing file and add it live in-game. Other people can join in on everything as well. Setting up an avatar is a social event, right there in VR, instead of in a separate application like how it's the case for VRChat and I really enjoy that. But there's so much more. It really feels like the sky is the limit with what you can do in Resonite.

- You can join multiple different worlds and quickly switch between them without any loading time. I don't know how but somehow this barely impacts my PC's performance, which is pretty neat. You can join multiple worlds at the same time and the ones you're not active in will simply show your avatar in an AFK state.

- Lots of communication between the devs and the community. The developers have almost daily livestreams on Twitch where they answer questions from the community and talk about the development progress and roadmaps and all of that stuff. It's really nice how in the loop they keep their community.

TL;DR

It's a good platform and has so much potential. The devs are great people too. The community can be hit or miss I guess, depending on where you're coming from. Unsurprisingly most people playing Resonite are furries, lmao. You can basically do anything you want in-game. Create avatars, worlds, assets, mods, change your surrounding, save items you think are cool in your inventory, send other people items and files in chat, send audio-memos (I wish that was a thing in VRChat), paste Youtube links in your menu and automatically spawn in a video player, and and and... all in Resonite, in VR, right there and than. It runs pretty badly as of now but this will change a LOT in the coming weeks/months as that's the next big issue the devs are working on.

If you wanna give Resonite a shot my personal recommendation would be to find a mentor or someone from the Discord that can show you the ropes of things. It really is worth it. Resonite offers an experience which VRChat can't. However, they both have a raison d'être. VRChat is more new-comer friendly and polished (as of now). It's easier on your hardware (as of now) and is more focused on the socialising aspect of a VR social game. Which does not mean that there are no chill hang-out worlds or gaming worlds in Resonite, but the focus clearly lies somewhere else with a big portion of the community. Resonite is mostly about creating stuff in VR. Together. A different type of socialising I guess. But again, there are also game worlds, drinking worlds, chill worlds, all of that good stuff.

Played it together with my boyfriend and it was a ton of fun! :D
I could immediately tell that Gemini Home Entertainment and Local 58 were inspirations and I love that. You have amazing taste, dear dev.
Also love the fact that for kobolds you went with a more accurate design of kobolds that are more akin to Germanic mythology, and not the modern "draconic" kobolds that were invented by Dungeons and Dragons just a couple years ago.

Really fun game!!! Can 100 % recommend it, especially considering it's only 10 bucks. I am not very good at FPS games but love card games, and somehow it's still fun, even when losing!

Lots of customization with different characters featuring different abilities and skins, tons of different cards and combos you can pull off, and cards that just straight up give you different guns.

As of now, there are 4 different maps and they feel very unique compared to each other, both aesthetically but also gameplay-wise.

You can only play 1v1 or 2v2 (either one of them with friends, online against randos, or solely with bots). Sadly there's no way as of now to play with more than 4 people or uneven teams yet. You can't even fill up a team with a bot if you wanna play 2v2 but only have 3 players. I REALLY hope this gets added later down the line. It doesn't even seem like a complicated change to me, at least the "filling a team up with bots" stuff. I can see the devs not wanting to add even more modes for online play to not split up the user base and thus lengthen the queue times, but you can just keep those different game modes locked behind the custom lobbies! A game called Friends vs Friends, that EXACTLY requires you to play with either 1 or 3 friends, not 2 or 4+ seems weird to me.

I don't think I have much to add to the graphics and aesthetic, they look absolutely amazing. The art style is beautiful and I adore the different characters.

Probably the game that gives you the most bang for your buck, not just on Steam but anywhere really. Truly a one of a kind game. A must buy pretty much.

Absolutely amazing game and I couldn't stop putting it down once I started playing it. I was in that sort of phase where no game felt like fun and I just kept staring at my Steam library, looking for something to play, so I finally picked up this game after it's been sitting on my Wishlist for so long, and DAMN. It's been a long time since I was addicted to a game, actively wanting to play it every single day. I'm gonna give you a pros and cons list I guess, cause Harvestella is far from perfect, but the things it's good at it's REALLY good at.

PROS:

- The character (or rather Monster) design is PEAK. I am not necessarily talking about the NPCs (except for their clothing, which differs from town to town they are very similar looking) and human companions, they look nice, but not too much out of the ordinary from other RPGs. But man, the design of the bosses is AMAZING. The further you get in the game the cooler they become too!

- The story is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AMAZING. It already starts off intriguing, but not too much out of the ordinary (which was also why I put off the game for so long), but after doing Chapter 3 it quickly shifts tone and just keeps getting more interesting. It reminds me a lot of NieR: Automata's story and how it felt to experience it. It takes you on a rollercoaster ride and drops lore bombshells left and right after like chapter 6(?) The game is also WAY longer than I expected. I finished the game after 75 hours and there's still content left

- The companions' side quests all start off pretty slow/lame but eventually turn into incredible stories of their own (with the exception of some...). My personal favourite ones were Shrika's and Heine's stories, so I REALLY recommend to check those out

- The farming aspect of the game is very similar to other similar games, like Rune Factory and Stardew Valley. It does some stuff better and some stuff worse, but personally I like it a lot. Either way, don't go into this game thinking that you'll JUST be farming and ignore the story. Harvestella is first and foremost an RPG WITH farming elements, not the other way around.

- The OST/Sound Track is AMAZING. Especially late game there are some bangers I absolutely adore. Something that's a bit sad though is the fact that some of the tracks you will only experience for like 30 minutes to an hour, maybe even less. For example, the very last region/dungeon you explore in the game

CONS:
(Most cons are very surface level in my opinion, but there are a couple of exceptions)

- Right from the start, the character creation is... lacklustre. You can choose between Male, Female, and Non-Binary, which is actually pretty nice, but then when you select the actual character/look, they are all female. Why not just give us a female protagonist directly? It's kind of pointless to create your own character when it has no effect, but I digress. It didn't bother me too much personally

- The enemy variety is fairly limited. There are a lot of different enemies, don't get me wrong, but most of them are just re-colours and re-typings of the "standard" enemies you encounter at the beginning. I can see that being a turn-off for other people and I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit disappointed by that at times, but there ARE several enemy types that are exclusive to each region so it's not really too monotonous

- Graphically the game is a bit rough. The aesthetic and art direction of the game are incredible though, so you forget about that very quickly. The upside to this however is the fact that the game could run on a literal potato, which also explains why there are so few graphic settings to begin with. You don't really need them. The thing that annoyed me to the very end though are the animations for the characters. I am not talking about the fighting animations for the different Job's abilities, they are cool. I mean the regular animations that you see NPCs do for example. They look clunky and there's not a whole lot of variety, so sometimes the devs had to use animations that don't fully fit the mood of the conversation and it's just a weird experience. Meanwhile, the animations for every companions' special attack look sick, I just don't get it.

- Voice acting is... there? The game has voice acting but it's far and few between. There are not a whole bunch of lines and it's usually restricted to combat only. It's not bad voice acting, but it's very repetitive. HOWEVER, there's one specific line that Aria says near the end of the game, and if you know you know. That line gave me goosebumps, and even just thinking of it gives me goosebumps as well. I just wish there was more. Especially when it comes to the fairies when using their powers ._. It's giving Navi's "Hey listen" vibes.

CONCLUSION:

I started picking this game up because I wanted a farming simulator game with an RPG on the side, like Stardew Valley, or even Rune Factory. What I got was an incredible RPG with farming. I wholeheartedly recommend this game. The PROS heavily outweigh the CONS in my opinion. The game keeps on getting better the more you play, I can't stress this enough. I am just sad that the first impressions of the game are so rough, cause it turns a lot of people away from the game.
