Everything changed when the fire ants attacked.
Well, no, that had nothing to do with you, but it was an issue when you needed help from the earth ants.

Webbed is enjoyable. A little creepy with some of the spiders, but there is an arachnophobia mode if you can't stand the lil friends at all. None of the puzzles or platforming are particularly complicated or precision. Is just a short cute time gathering friends and forming a rescue party.

Would play a sequel to dance with more bugs.

One cannot appreciate a game when it crashes constantly and impassably, even with trying half the communal fixes.

Well, aside from being a bee.. there is nothing. The scenery could be argued as pleasant, but the game isn't even designed for you to enjoy it when you're slowly floating toward the next mandatory collectable.

Also the office seems to be broken and one cannot pass the first level.

It is difficult to say that Cloudpunk has a lot of 'gameplay' to it, but if you're willing to take your time, breathe in some probably not very fresh air, Cloudpunk is a pleasant experience. Not every idea is fresh - patches upon upgrades - but still nice to see.

Plus you have a wonderful friend: Camus.

Pleasant. Easier to recommend for a calming time than Powerwash or Viscera Clean-up Detail, though of course missing some of the depth of cleaning that those have. Get to tidy up some nice spaces, grow some flowers and pet a variety of animals.

True to its name, Hired Gun lacks a certain.. support structure. Leaving the player high and dry when things get messy. It sure looks appealing though.

As other people have explained, the developers of Hired Gun portray the environmental atmosphere of 40k especially well. An unfortunate side-effect though is that for gameplay purposes everything is a visual mess - navigation, target identification, treasure - all of this would be near impossible to see without the giant outlines placed on them. Which certainly helps, and you do have cybernetics as an excuse; along with the option to turn them off if you're feeling brave.

Combat. Combat is of course the main feature. You run around, quite fast, and shoot things. Arguably too fast. It is clear the game wants the experience to be speedy and hectic, akin to the Doom reboot, and to facilitate this you have the power to regain life - with the specific caveat of this being only for a few seconds after you are injured. So yes, get in the fray, take damage, deal damage; but if there is a pause and you are on low health, death is likely your only option. Doom however, provides clear options of what will give you health: execute an enemy, burn an enemy, etc. To be fair, the game does have medkits that you will run out of and revive items, the latter you can buy at any of the many checkpoint servitors around the maps. So you are not stopped from playing or continuing, but it's more the inherent nature of the system that you are nearly expected to take damage - regardless of your attempts - especially if you're playing on hard, and have limited ways to fix it. On hard you can just explode because someone had a moment to look at you funny.

Overall Hired Gun is okay. It's not strictly bad, there can be some fun, some nice weapons; but it's not really adequate either. Unfulfilling.

On the plus side however, you do get a dog, and you do get to do the petting. Even after you mutilat- er... replace their weak fle- ... upgrade. Even after you upgrade them.

While perhaps one of the lower budget third-person Souls-likes, Dolmen is still passable. It is on the short side, and due to the reliance on firearms is easiest compared to Immortal: Unchained. In fact, close combat often seems to be a very dangerous choice.

Of the Souls-likes I have played, strangely, Dolmen seems the easiest to adapt to a different game type. Perhaps in part due to its story, it seems like it could have been a sci-fi survival akin to Dead Space, or a story shooter in the form of Halo.

Dolmen's use of energy is at least somewhat curious. Energy is what the player uses for firearms or elemental melee. So, as additional damage or stamina. At the same time, maximum energy is used to heal or a few select attacks, and can be replenished with batteries. The healing is immediate, meaning it can be used in the middle of a roll or attack but battery use takes time. This means the player has a little bit of a safety net before they need to expose themselves to more danger by standing still. Using it as a bonus stamina bar is also a nice touch.

Still, while not amazing it is still an alright time.

Decent.

Reminiscent of Resident Evil, naturally, and some aspects of FEAR.

Could do with more monster variation/aggression/ambushing.

Little heavy on the horror/jumps from the onset, fall-off of any attempts later on.

While kind of the point the story was going for, could do with a 'true' ending or something to work toward - lacks a certain satisfaction to all your efforts.

Can spend a lot of time searching for anything you've forgotten the location of. Can understand not wanting a highlighted map telling the players 'here are the puzzles you've missed', but need some balance of not spending hours searching for Stephanie's Safe (it's in the library, not a bedroom). I do not know how I missed some notes after how long I spent double and triple checking locations by accident.

Inherent to any game with a 'special vision' mode, a lot of time gets spent rechecking areas, again. The game does have markers where you should need the camera, but cannot confirm if it covers all of them.

Appreciate that there are some puzzles, or at least safes/keypads that require a bit more exploration or attention to notes that give small advantages like another shortcut or more ammunition/information/upgrades.

The memory room is an interesting touch. Though a note on the writing, it does make the whole hotel feel like there were -only- those people in the entire hotel.

Had some fun though, thank you.

Epic Chef sailing by quietly despite being such a loud game.

Epic Chef is wonderfully silly. Jokes and wit that aren't ham-fisted into your mouth, and appropriate expressions and reactions from characters to make it all work. The game is not without some inconvenient bugs, and a little bit of the harvest grind, but the dish is well worth it.

The main notes that remain in my brain is that at first I was very uncertain about the blockhead character design. You grow used to it, and the expressions certainly make up for it, but given some of the faces that do get extra polygons, I think they could have been less flat and still worked. The other would be that you could -probably- let people customise Zest a little. He does have character and history, but I think he can get away with being a player insert still.

The Serpent Rogue is.. curious. Not strictly bad, but perhaps not complete enough to actually warrant playing - which is not altogether unusual for Team17 publishings. Evokes feelings of FATE and hints of some of the freedoms of Fable.

Some the core ideas, the actual use of ingredients and potions rather than them feeling like an over complication or something to be ignored, work fairly well, but there isn't actually enough game to then put those ideas into practice. There are effectively only -two- gameplay areas They're not that big or varied, and you have to leave fairly often and return to either get more ingredients to appear or because the rogue-lite element of the area refreshing is occurring.

You can have an array of followers, change them, yourself, or your enemies with potions - but again there isn't enough of a game to warrant doing so. Most of what you will fight or encounter just feel like low level monsters. Rats, chickens, skeletons. Technically only one large enemy blocks your way to the end game and is introduced at the start - and once you deal with it it is no longer a problem.

Serpent Rogue needs a lot more development. As another mentions: it is a very solid proof of concept or extended demo.
