Simple, uncomplicated, traditional Zelda exploration and fun.

Also can pet animals and there's a sneeze animation for one of the villagers. 10/10.

The game is undeniably entertaining, and slightly fairer than one might initially expect in giving survivors chances to escape from a threat they can't physically confront. There is thrill in both the hunt and escaping the hunt. Different killers provide a lot of variation to the gameplay, and it can be fun to see some of your friends from other franchises like Ghostface.

The extra monetisation method is kinder than a play restricting phone game, but should still be considered predatory. Developers do deserve money, and these ones do continue to support their game. There are perks to make the game interesting, or help combat some of the inherent flaws in the imbalanced nature of the game - such as perks for if a killer decides they want to kill specifically you. But if you want them, you have to play forever to unlock them, or pay for them. In general the game favours those that have played longer because they have more options available to them.
To expand a little more on this - each survivor or killer comes with three unique perks. Levelling them up lets you unlock these perks to use on other characters. This.. both allows for more customisation, but in a way can also dilute some of the individuality of each character. Once you play survivors enough the person you pick is just a model switch and doesn't mean anything. While killers are still stuck with their core function, they can take perks from other killers to pick a set that provides the least potential for escape. Good in theory, cruel in practice.


Frustration is inherent in all things competitive, particularly when not clean cut mirror matches, but at the end of the day there is little in this an individual survivor can do if a killer decides on purpose or by accident that you don't get to have fun that match. The game relies on a silent agreement with most killers that they aren't going to tunnel, camp, or generally be poor sports about the chase.

At the same time, playing as killer can be similarly frustrating, and often comes with greater pressure, when against the well coordinated, or just particularly evasive. This leaves both parties feeling frustrated or running around with the notion of 'get effed'.

I will probably keep playing though, even though I've uninstalled it ~five times, because I want to play with friends, and it -can- be fun.
All in all, spent way too much money, got upset with game. Griefed myself.

Silliest Resident Evil game ever. Two of the best throw-away dialogue lines that needed the rest of the series to exist to be worth it. Not much on the spooky horror side, though there is a little with a few jump scares. Still had fun.

More seriously the whole old fantasy village probably would have been more fun as its own game outside the RE franchise. It also grows increasingly difficult to believe in entire villages of people managing to lose contact with the rest of the world in the modern era. Hunting around for random sparkles of a shiny crystal for more money is irksome but otherwise things flow smoothly for the most part.

Makes one long for the D&D table, role-play server, or a good book. Solid construction from the ground up, and a nice mix of exploration and combat. Lovely effort on the world building in both lore and environment senses.

Hedon features a more traditional level to level progression, though often quite expansive, and Bloodrite transforms this into some more freedom with many levels directly connected to one another and going back and forth between them on your quest. Both are plenty of fun with many paths to explore - and there is still space for more in the future.

I don't know that I can recommend Greak despite it having many wonderful aspects in its animation, the characters and each of them having different dialogue with everyone and personality. Largely due to the sluggish nature that comes from the formula of puzzle games with multiple characters. Greak does mitigate this a bit, it has controls so that you can move characters at the same time, or call them to you if you're close enough, but it can still feel like a lot of back and forth.

Overall it's not quite Castlevania, and it's not quite Lost Vikings. The story isn't quite satisfying, but if there were more of it the experience might be dragging on too long.

I have killed ten of a given enemy from a rotating set of eight different factions (zombies, skeletons, pirates, etc.) for the past 80 hours. To be kind, the enemies have learned some new moves in later areas so they're harder, but they're still the same enemies.
The most memorable character I know is Isabella, who I've only heard about in notes. I know the boss of the first dungeon was called Simon, but I don't know who he is or who the hell the boss of the second one was. All of the combat was forgettable, you have a healer who puts down a big aoe field of healing and the rest of you jump into the mosh pit until its over. (I don't actually know how you fix this with an action based combat system)
The third one I know to contain Thorpe, the only guy featured in a cutscene at the start of the game, because he sent me a letter saying 'I hate you' after zero build up to us actually having a conflict with each other.
I met a crazy old man and convinced him I should become a Soulwarden, rebuild the order and help fix the island again. Which is relatively neat, but then I spoke to three other forgettable characters and that was apparently enough to rebuild the order. Which provides no perks, no infrastructure, still got to rely on those PvP factions to bother funding the right crafting tables in my area.

New World is pretty, and at first it's pleasant to just explore and trundle along doing what's asked of you. There's some wonderful sound design - the sounds of mining and woodcutting, how they echo across the landscape; and how you hear shouts and sounds of battle from distant players. You can't jump very high which feels weird, but you can navigate the landscape pretty well regardless, and clamber up a lot of things even if a bit iffy on when it'll let you.
Then, after helping the first settlement with their problems, you eventually have to move on and find another settlement. You then talk to their barkeep, hunter, artisan, and mayor to help with similar problems. You uncover some new secrets, it's fine. You move on to the third, and talk to their barkeep, hunter, artisan, and mayor again.
None of the characters matter, none of them stick. Move on to the next place, yeah I got the message the first time. Skeletons all up in these ancient ruins. Continuing the main story basically involves doing every single quest available to keep up to the level requirement. If you've looked into crafting you probably only have access to a fraction of your resources since your PvP faction doesn't own all the villages you've stored stuff in, and you naturally have to cut down a hundred trees to level that up. Then make a hundred items you don't need to increase that skill, and no one else needs them either because they also made one hundred spatulas.

New World feels a bit like a painting, perhaps. There's stuff there, some texture, maybe some interesting details; but not enough depth or substance - and I can't actually play games with a painting. Could definitely make some beautiful paintings of the world and scenery though.
