Throw disembodied heads into the audience. Beat the opposition to death with the severed limbs of dead gladiators. Bendy, elastic spears. The holy-red flows like wine. Pretty much like ancient Rome and stuff.

In the beginning, I spent probably 20-30 hours learning the mechanics. Slow? Certainly... "Noob River" provides ample play ground for those new to the genre and an understanding of the overall realm at hand. It provides the basic learning environ to flourish, and at 100+ hours I have just nudged the leviathan that is the Exiles realm. Let's call it the tip of the iceberg.

The thrill I harness from an overzealous fatal spelunking is something that I cannot replicate in my survival experience... every tactical decision you make could impact your re-incarnate self, a true decision based game.

"Is this potential misadventure going to cost me everything?" (caveat - pending server/single play sttings which can make death a total loss or recoverable) I relish the total loss of gains earned (i.e. player character carrying the best, at level weapons etc) and the inability to recover them in light of the caveat mentioned...

That being said, in single player mode, I have built a sprawling complex in the desert, immediatly south of the albino bat boss. It sits proper amidst all (up to at least my level at 46) required resources, especially iron. I have constructed a defensive wall from canyon wall to wall to protect my settlement. It's lined with captured slave (thrall) archers, broken to my will via the wheel of pain. The wheel crushes the hardest human drive to my bidding. I have also gently raised the surrounding wild beasts from pup to savage, be it striped hyenas to rhinos (crocodiles, tigers, mythical monsters ad nauseum) in animal pens. My familiars and thralls guard their master's citadel to the death.

...and then it arrives, The Purge, A mechanic in all Exiles server realms that tests your best laid plans. The purge meter builds as you progress (in single player and over uniform time on servers?), you work against this at minimum. Is your base of operation capable to defend and even flourish?

The aforementioned thrill has yet to subside and I've yet to penetrate the absolute, snow covered north. Not to mention, the nooks and crannies of the lands I believe to be well uncovered and familiar with. This is in lieu of a substantial crafting mechanic, bonus crafting via unique crafting recipes from "named" thralls who are rare in your encounters. I'm at a loss for words, my praise is immense @ Funcom for listening to it's player base... kudos on the latest update.

Conan Exiles is a must add for survival game buffs.
