This game was painful.

The most obvious and laboured criticism of this game is that it's terribly optimised, which is just undeniable. It's a terrible port, and runs like a terrible port. If this was the only issue, I couldn't alone give this game a bad review because I could play it on better hardware and have a different experience. This is not the case, their is lots about this game which would be the same case for any console.

I played my playthrough as Emily Kaldwin, which is what I was advised was the most full Dishonored 2 experience. Blink was incredibly useful in the first game, Corvo's teleportation complimented the movement and running around assassinating people without making a step felt very fluent. Emily's iteration of blink throws that out the window, and has been described accurately to me as 'blink with erectile dysfunction'. It is not fluid whatsoever and rarely predicts where I want to go quickly or accurately, which is a key tenet of what made the first game's blink so useful. It is essential for traversing the map but rarely works how intended. The most use I had for it was the unintended use, throwing Anton Sokolov's corpse around on the ship with the upgraded version.

The movement is just janky, it does not feel good or fluid like the first game. This is possibly because it's a console port as well.

The aesthetic of the game cannot even be remotely compared to the first game. It is ridiculously cluttered, the incentive to look at objects of significance is not there. It is very hard to tell which objects I can pick up and use or throw, and which ones are just part of the environment. Not even taking into account the performance hit all of this useless stuff has, it is simply too cluttered. The simplicity of the first Dishonored made objects of significance stand out, but there is just too much stuff on shelves and desks too look through and distinguish what I can pick up and what I can't.

On the note of aesthetic, nothing conveys the same meaning as it did in the first game. Pendleton is a good example, you can see his character design from the first game and you will intuitively know that he is an aristocrat, the huge forehead, the lankiness and the beady eyes. In the pursuit of realism, this game threw out the picturesque faces and scenes, and therefore the same environment and feeling of gloom that the first game had. The stylisation was bastardised, even though there is still hints of that initial creativity left behind.

The combat is just straight up bad. The best way to kill people in this game is by sprint+slide+stab which results in a instant kill on practically everything but Jindosh' clockwork robots and blood flies. Which both respectively have their own terrible combat systems. The blood flies are just annoying, and not remotely as terrifying as they could have been. All it takes is spamming LMB and they will quickly die, but the process is tedious and it makes the enemy pointless. And for the Jindosh' sneed bots, they had so much wasted potential because they are ridiculously easy to kill, all that is required is double jump and a moderate sense of timing. When you take their head off, they lose sight and start attacking anything that makes noise. Which granted, is very funny when you want to take out lots of enemies by just kiting it, but is not challenging in a way that fighting this enemy should be.

This is only a sip of the terrible experience I had playing this game, not to mention there is just so much in this that just blatantly does not make sense. + The voice actors are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, and their dialogue messes up the audio from the environment. The outsider, in an attempt to make him more personable, they just made him very annoying, he is perpetually whiny. Emily's pointless comments on the environment are also just annoying, especially when they are things that can be inferred from just observing.

The only redeeming qualities of this game come from when I did everything the game didn't want me to do.

Enjoyable game but combat can be a bit repetitive. Really like how the hitboxes work and I love the map.
