Before I dive into this review, I want to clarify that my negative feedback is directed solely at the Definitive Edition of GTA San Andreas, not the original game itself.

What I didn't like:

  • Police cars driving themselves: It did happen more then once in my 87 hours of playtime to see a police car driving with no one inside.

  • Performance issues: The game has significant performance issues, ranging from frame rate drops to general sluggishness. That happens despite the fact that I am running the game on a pretty decent PC.

  • Texture and rendering bugs: There are moments when textures don’t load correctly, and the rendering is a complete mess.

  • Game lock-up during a cutscene: At one point, the game locked itself during a cutscene, forcing a restart.

  • Pedestrian cops throwing themselves in front of your car: Getting a wanted level because cops are suicidal is beyond frustrating.

And these are just the issues I noted down. There were more that made my experience frustrating, to say the least.

What I did like:

Despite all these issues, there are some positives. If you can overlook the terrible optimization and performance issues, the game does have its moments of beauty. The graphics, particularly the lighting and reflection effects, can be genuinely good looking.

Final Thoughts:

Despite all the negatives, I still found myself loving the casino and gambling aspects of the game.
