Basically an X-COM 2 stand-alone expansion, with fun enough twists to make it feel worthwile . I really liked the breach mechanic, it's fun and thematic, the diffrent abilities where always fun to use even if many feels like the same ones from the previous games. The more compact nature of the missions work well, making for no dead-time where you spent 3 turns moving, and also means more variety in the enviroments. I never felt like i ended up playing the same map twice, even if the mission objectives were repetetive. I just wished it had more to do between the combat missions, the management feels barebones and the upgrades are way to few. You max out each character really quickly as they only level up 5 times, it feels like they could have done so much more, especially since they are fixed characters. Still, highly recommended for turn-based strategy fans, or those seeking a solid entry-point into the genre.

Very much a game that tries to do way to much at once, and as such it is unquestionably shallow. The management part lacks any strategy, and mostly consists of waiting for money, buying a few upgrades and then more waiting. The turn-based combat is the now standard XCOM-style. The RPG-elements and relationship-system also feels undercooked The AI barely seems to do anything and is rarely a threat.

So with all that why the hell do i like this game. Well, the theme does alot of heavy-lifting, they nail the feel and look perfectly, everything about this has that wonderfully cliche gangster-film feel. And while the combat is basic, i still did enjoy it. It has a ton of weapons and they are fun to use. I also enjoyed recruiting and trying out the diffrent gangsters you can hire, and that does have a real feeling of them getting more powerful.

I do like the fact that it does actually have a story, each mobster you can play as i think has a diffrent main one. It's just kinda cool for a game like this to have that, and does add alongside the opening conversiation a more character and story-focused approach which games like this never really does. Yeah, there aren't really that many of those missions and it doesn't really matter that much to the overall gameplay, but it still is pretty cool.

I can't fault the game for it's ambition, even if it falls short. I hope that with time and expansions they are able to really add depth and fix the problems it has. Because i did enjoy what i have played. For now i recommend this for people who really love the gangster setting and enjoy fun, but basic, XCOM-like turn-based combat.

Fun turn-based combat with a focus on pushing and pulling enemies into eachother and the enviroment. And it just never gets old to push a goblin into a tree that falls and crushes the goblin behind it. The times you intentionally, or mostly unintentionally if i am honest, create a huge chain of enemies and objects smashing into eachother is an amazing feeling.

The negative is that that is kinda all there really is, other than that it feels like fairly standard, but enjoyable turn-based combat. There is a hub map you can explore to find relics and manage cities and upgrades, recruit new heroes and such, but there really isn't that much to explore or upgrade, so it feels pretty barebones. I think maybe in the multiplayer and skirmish modes it is more in focus, but in the campaign it feels pretty pointless and once i got a few of the upgrades i just ran from mission to mission.

Also, fair warning though for people with older computers, i had some performance problems with this, frame rate dips, slow-downs and occasional freezing, i think there is a memory leak problem as it seemed to use way to much memory for such a game. I doubt it will be a problem for people with better computers and if you have patience for the occasional problems it's hardy a deal-breaker.

I do recommend this if you are looking for a light, but fun turn-based combat game. The enviromental manipulation is fun as hell, and i do hope the developers can make a sequel, expansion or another game that can develop that further.

What if Resident Evil 4 took place on a russian boat? And wasn't as good? Well, that is Cold Fear, a totally okay game just lacks the intensity and sense of exploration that made Re4 one of the best and most replayable games i have ever played. The ship is a cool setting, and this does very interesting things with the way it realistically sways and the way the waves crashes into it, i don't think any game since has actually done that. But that is only the first half and the second is in a far more generic oil rig/laboratory. I can recommend this only to fans of Resident Evil 4 or action horror games, but even then only if you really want to try out something new in the genre.

One of the funniest games ever. Also a really fun third-person shooter with a gun that shoots sharks..
