Age of Empires III (2007) - A Nostalgic Return to Classic RTS

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Age of Empires III is a timeless classic that brings back fond memories of my early gaming days. Like many others, I first played this game on a pirated version during my teenage years (whoops!), but years later, I decided to buy the legit copy for nostalgia. And honestly, the magic of this game still holds up!

The standout feature of Age of Empires III has always been its incredible attention to historical detail, combined with satisfying real-time strategy mechanics. The campaign, which spans different civilizations and eras, offers a rich narrative alongside challenging scenarios that require both tactical thinking and resource management. It’s a beautiful blend of history and strategy that few games have been able to replicate.

One thing that always stuck with me is the game's gorgeous art style and animations, even for its time. The buildings, units, and landscapes are well-crafted, and while it may feel dated by today’s standards, the art direction gives it a charm that hasn’t faded over the years. The soundtrack, too, adds to the immersive experience, with sweeping scores that elevate the grand scale of the battles.

The home city system adds a unique twist, allowing players to customize shipments of units, resources, and upgrades based on their playstyle. This feature kept me hooked for hours, as it opened up so many strategies for both campaign and multiplayer modes.

Of course, no game is without its flaws. Compared to modern RTS games, Age of Empires III can feel a bit clunky in terms of unit pathfinding, and the AI isn't as sharp as it once seemed. However, the nostalgia factor more than makes up for it, especially for those of us revisiting the game after all these years.

In summary, Age of Empires III (2007) remains a solid and enjoyable RTS experience, even more so for those of us who have a history with it. If you're like me and want to relive the glory days of classic strategy games, it’s well worth picking up a legit copy and diving back into those epic battles.
