The magic’s all gone…

Speaking as someone who's been playing Skullgirls on and off since day 1, not just on PC, but also on XBOX 360, the recent censorship update was utterly soul-crushing. That something so good should come to such an unnecessary and abrupt end is disheartening, for as much as I still love the gameplay and the music, that brazenness of the game’s art direction was such a core part of its identity that it just feels like a soulless husk without it, and I can no longer support the game in good consciousness. It doesn't matter if what’s being censored is political, sexual or religious in nature; it's still immoral to censor a game over 11 years after its initial release. That they would even think of doing this to their loyal fan base is beyond baffling and insulting, and it shows an utter lack of respect from the developers and publisher for those who actually play the game and stuck with them through the game's most difficult times.

It’s truly sad to witness such an amazing game unravel like this. Skullgirls had such a unique charm owing to its sex appeal, and when that combined with its absolutely stellar gameplay and visuals, along with what can only be described as one of the most memorable game soundtracks of all time, it was nothing short of a fighting game masterpiece.

Rest in peace, SG.
