finally got around to this classic and what can i say, it's unique and definitely worth playing.

journey's an allegory on life, and although it conveys the themes at its heart in a quite stylized and artistic way, it never fails to also deliver as a game, with simple yet elegant mechanics and a exceedingly beautiful world. the vibe, the look, the feel, the story, it's all there and i get why it is so highly lauded.

i look forward to replaying it a few times, just to see more of the world and share more experiences

honestly, i feel like i should really like this but for some reason it just doesn't strike a chord with me. sure, it gets a few chuckles, and it certainly smart game design and everything. you should definitely play it.
but other games, such as dr. langeskov or how fish is made, are in a similar niche and more enjoyable to me.

Senua's Sacrifice is an emotionally exhausting, immersive and beautiful game. it tells the story of the young warrior Senua who is on a quest against the gods.

the devs aim to portray psychosis, and from everything i've heard and read about it afterwards did a great job. personally i feel i've gained more insight into mental illness, psychosis, and anxiety than through any other medium.

other points:
+ the graphics are very good, especially considering it's a few years old
+ the sound design is the best i've ever heard, no debate
+ the pacing is good. the game knows what it's about, and doesn't distract. total runtime is roughly 7 hours.
+ no collectibles. it's refreshing to have a game that doesn't offer achievement hunting or collectibles or other completionist challenges. i rarely have the time (or rather will) to sink hours into these tasks, yet still feel like missing out when i don't. the fact this game does not encourage that behavior is definitely a positive for me
+ the gameplay is fine, not revolutionary but cleanly executed. anything else would probably also not be fitting theme-wise

10/10 must play (except if you're easily scared or get nightmares maybe)

+ decent graphics (if you play with high res texture mod)

+ plenty of ways to play the game, from ghost to killing machine
+ good level design
+ enough to do for completionists

- more missions like the mask ball would've been nice
- ending could've been executed /portrayed better

all in all a 9/10, just play it already

great remake of an all time great game.

the game follows thomas angelo through his carreer in the mafia in the 1930s. it consists of several chapters set at different times that depict singular events. major parts of the game are driving and shooting, with some sneaking and other minor activies mixed in.

general things which apply to the original as well (which is a 9.5/10 imo):
+ great characters
+ great story
+ great narrative arch
+ perfect mix of story and action sequences
+ dope vibe, great music and city background

~ there's little to do outside the missions, which i like because it means there's no grind involved and you can focus on the story. while the city is detailed and varied, it's not an open world, i.e. you can't talk with npcs and take stuff from their houses etc. there are some collectibles if you're into that

the remake reworks the graphics, car behaviour and some aspects of the plot. it does an awesome job updating the orignal, making it look adquate and feel comfortable. the city is wayyyyyyyy denser and feels more alive. definitely recommend buying.

very cute and a nice way to kill time, also with friends & family.

fast paced parkour in cyberspace with a hook (duh).

+ great atmosphere
+ addictive

there is literally nothing to improve gameplay-wise.
however, there were some other issues, which might be due to me playing on the steam deck:
- resolution doesn't fit in some menus
- records are overwritten? whenever i finished a level with a worse time, that time was shown as my PB
- PBs aren't shown after completing the level

still, really enjoyable and entertaining, also great to play with friends and one up each other.

How Fish Is Made is a kafkaesque allegory to human life that takes us players on a tumultuous ride on the rollercoaster that is the life of canned sardines. Our silent yet tangible protagonist serves as an empty canvas that we can project our desires, hopes, shortcomings and failings onto. The protagonists journey encompasses the whole spectrum of emotion, touching on subjects such as friendship, ambition, trust and mental illness.

I highly recommend this stunning interactive distillation of absurdist literature. Staying true to the theme, however, the game should only be installed on sale.

you're a guy moving to a firewatch position in the rockies to get away from life. on the job you discover that odd things are going on.

+ atmosphere. seriously amazing. the soundtrack is perfect, the graphics fitting, the lighting beautiful, the environment crafted with attention to detail
+ story. one of the best video game stories from beginning to end in my opinion, with lots of things to reflect upon. touches on very relevant topics in a sensible and interesting manner.
+ characters. the games is pretty short, but contains a lot of character development. rarely will you connect with characters that much in such a short game.
+ gameplay. the mechanics are enough to keep you busy while hiking through the mountains, and the radio interaction is pretty cool.
+ pacing. the game never bores, is always entertaining, and leaves enough room to discover.

no negatives. this is the perfect narrative driven walking simulator to me. it is everything you want this type of game and is absolutely a must.

kona is a nice detective game where you walk around an empty canadian town trying to solve a mystery as a stereotypic investigator in the 70s.

+ doooope atmosphere including graphics, music, narrator
+ nice plot hook
+ interesting characters
+ interesting puzzles
+ concise, no unnecessary detours
+ enough things to discover an immerse yourself in the town

~ the survival mechanics are very basic and barely challenging for most parts of the game. while i liked this a lot as they still contribute to the atmosphere, i definitely wouldn't call this a survival game. if you want that experience, you can play the game without vehicles but overall i would advise to check elsewhere if you're looking for a survival game

- story becomes relatively transparent early on
- achievements didn't work (has reportedly happened for some people, not all)
- ending is quite disappointing

all in all everything you could want out of a chill walking simulator/detective game, perfect passtime especially in winter.
