So like many others, the recent 'security' update has been a huge blemish on what otherwise would have been a fun VR social hangout game. To those that didn't mod the game, you might not notice much, aside from varying degrees of the game being sticky or buggy in some ways (EAC does *not* play nice with VR apparently.)

You might also notice a slew of new features (previously only available through mods) :D

Yeah no, the bottom line is people in the corporate for VRC got paid big bucks to add EAC. And we're the ones who have to deal with the fallout of that decision. They'll take money over the community every time apparently and I don't agree with that. That being said, most of my friends still use it, so I'll deal with it for now, but if I can get more people over to a place like Chillout or Neos, then that's probably where I'll end up. Once their network updates, server increases and all that go through anyways...

Not gonna lie, this screams "Maplestory" in terms of where its inspiration came from. Am I mad about this?
Not in the slightest. Tbh, I was getting sick of watching it spiral into an infinite upward-downward spiral.

That aside, so far having fun despite the slow grind early on. Based on what I'm seeing, my advice for the dev is to focus on longevity. Content, content and more content isn't going to cover the big boo-boo of messy/rushed updates. But also, proud to see what you've made for being a one-man team, and try not to burn yourself out on this.

I'd like to put this up as a 'maybe' or a 'not quite yet'. This game has a lot of potential, especially if you like Frostpunk. Dice Legacy takes the idea of a survival strategy and adds dice to it. "How?" you might ask. Well, imagine a civ, but instead of people you have dice. Roll your dice too often? Poof. Gone. As far as visual style and actual gameplay goes, it's kinda cool. However....

There's a few glaring issues that make this less fun than I'd like. For starters, the game only half-explains itself. When you unlock a new feature, the game provides you with pause-buffered help screens. Nice and all, but when it comes to understanding what each dice face does, you're left to figure it out on your own. Some of them are common sense, but tooltips would alleviate this entirely. There's a minor inconvenience where if you set a die in a cookhouse to restore durability, or in a school to rank them up, you have to manually allocate food (whereas literally every other material is auto-slotted where it needs to be, and no you can't slot more than you need in.)

The last major issue is that I feel like this game tries too hard to replicate Frostpunk's core gameplay loop. For Frostpunk, it's unique, fresh, and new, and in Dice Legacy it's... almost shoehorned in. It's a hell of a lot brighter than Frostpunk, so not completely amiss, and the ringworld designs scream "We played Halo and loved the worldbuilding." As for what it can do on its own, it has a way to go before I can happily recommend it to everyone. I don't really wanna spend the first hour of a survival game trying to learn what the base mechanics are, only to learn that I was being an idiot because I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing, and that's what happened here. Hopefully time is taken to make it more accessible to oblivious idiots like myself.

I haven't played much yet, but the progression is just hard enough to be rewarding, and also fun. You can't pet the dog (as far as I know). There's a lot of randomly generated content, so you're always on your toes and asking yourself what's worth it and what's not, and seeing as this plays like a mix of Raiden X and Contra, it is a BLAST.

To put the sweetest cherry on the cake, the game looks, sounds and feels like it belongs in an arcade cabinet and I LOVE THAT. I cannot recommend this enough.

For those that enjoy psychological horror in small doses, getting repeatedly punched in the gut, having everything you love (including your feels) destroyed. Also a literal dumptruck of stupid jokes that will make you forget you're playing a serious game. Seriously, give OMOCAT a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AWARD.

Even if you only play it once, play it. It will keep you guessing. It will make you laugh. It will make you cry. It will give you anxiety. It will make you remember the things you love.

If you loved Mega Man Battle Network, you will adore this game. It has a rougelike style progression, so be prepared to grind things out, but it seems to be designed mainly for people that didn't think MMBN was hard enough.
That being said, it's incredible to play, gives you lots of interlinking mechanics for play options and is all around a fun and gorgeous experience.

*Also, it has couch co-op.* Buy it, play it with a friend.

If you like breaking the rules, breaking reality, silly interactions, and mind-numbingly confusing puzzles, this is absolutely the game for you. If you don't like thinking or goofy mechanics, you're SOL.

If you like puzzle games in any capacity Baba Is You is a highly recommended purchase for me. Game Devs deserve it, and 10% of the Lead Dev's income goes directly to charity.

This game joins the ranks of CaveStory, Earthbound, Undertale, and DDLC for its merit, quirkiness, attention to detail, but most of all, its creativity. Jumping in Blind, no reservations is the best way to enjoy this, and leave nothing unexplored. It's a game worth playing in its entirety. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will smile.

Take the ride, it's most definitely worth the $10 Price tag.

The only downside I can think of is the fact that I'd only found out about this game now, even though it's been out for nearly two years.
