This is a wonderful game that still holds as much charm and fun as it did those many years ago I first picked it up. It has stood the test of time, as no other pirate game has come close to matching it in my books. (Let's see what they do with Sea of Thieves)

The only cons are that it hasn't aged amazingly, but is still playable and enjoyable.
Beyond that, only the bonus of having a number pad and the infamous dancing minigame are the only two sea barnacles on this fine ship.

So set sail! I highly recommend this and hope that one day we get a sequel or remake!

EDIT 2018: Sea of Thieves was a disappointment. Why can't someone make a decent pirate game?

I still hold out hope for a future release of something similar to this game. For the time being my recommendation stands to pick up this game, since there are also mods online if you hunt for them to breathe some life into the game. I may update this review someday when there is a new pirate game or I try one of the old pirate game mods kicking around the 'net. Until then, Bon Voyage!

EDIT 2020:
I was too harsh on Sea of Thieves, it ended up being decent. That being said, this is still the best pirate game out there. Today, (9/18/20) Steam had a "Pirate" game sale and this wasn't highlighted? Shame, maybe it's still showing its age. Still this is the best, I hope for a remake/sequel or a spiritual successor one day. I still recommend this buy if you can live with the jank from age. Until next time, Happy Sailin'!

Despite all the negative buzz for the release, it is still a great game. I believe in second chances, that we can all rise from the ashes. Sure the FPS and etc. could have been better, but it is an Arkham Game and when I hit 100% it was sweet as ever. Give it a shot, especially if you have decent specs (I ran it on a GTX 970 and ran into 3 hiccups = 2 crashes and 1 frame stutter, in my whole 60 hrs+ of gameplay.) Don't let FEAR get in your way, BE THE BATMAN.
