This is a review of New Genesis. Not base PSO2. The games ARE DIFFERENT.

TLDR: Great if you like games like genshin or JRPGS like nier automata/ xenoblade chronicles.

Goods:
The game has one of the best character creators of any game I've ever played.

Mechanically, the game feels amazing, very satisfying to beat enemies and level up.

The community while small, is overall quite friendly. Definitely an extroverts game.

For an MMORPG the game looks modern, good HDR support and support for FSR and DLSS.

An incredible level of customization for your character and "most" items can be obtained without money.

The game is truly free to play with no combat restrictions for players who don't want to spend.

Mids:
The game definitely is hard to grind for long times. Most of the activities are daily and are reshuffled on Tuesdays, so it can get a little stale by the end of the week.

The game isn't particularly difficult and the story isn't finished. If you're looking for a competitive experience this really isn't a game for you.

Crashing isn't uncommon, usually referred to in the community as "getting SEGA'D" personally has happened to me 3 times in the 250 hours I've played. However I've lost 0 progress to it, so it's not too big of a deal.

Most of the game really starts once you get level 75, while this isn't too hard to get given how fast you level up, the community of the game doesn't really exist at the lower levels.

The game plays its BEST with an alliance/friends. This game is rather boring alone. If you are someone who doesn't like interacting with other players this game will feel hollow and boring.

Bads:
This game does have a lot of paid content. Most if not all of it is cosmetic but if you want your character to look its best you kind of do have to spend real money due to the second issue of this game.

The player economy is VERY inflated. most of the popular or cutest items are near impossible to grind for simply due to the ridiculous price tag on everything. For a quick reference, doing all of your daily quests will give you 100,000 of the ingame currency called Meseta, small cosmetics like wings, hats, and special outfits can easily cost 10-30 million Meseta. Of course not all outfits cost that much, however thats a good idea of the kind of economy exists in the game.

This game is also a weeb game, not that that's a bad thing. It's just that if you're coming from something like WoW or other MMORPGs this game will feel odd with the amount of skin you're allowed to show and the overall nature of the game/community.

Overall Thoughts
I love this game. It has brought me countless hours of fun and gave me so many fun memories and wonderful friends. However, this game isn't going to be for everyone. If you enjoy customizing your character exactly how you want and showing off your fashion talents or even home designing skills in front of people, this game is for you. If you are looking for a deep story experience with loads of solo content, this game is not for you. It's probably my favorite MMORPG I've ever played, but definitely flawed.

8.5/10
