Hmm, how to describe Valkyria Chronicles, Its a great mix of a RPG, Strategy, Action, 3rd person shooter game, Set in a Fictional World War 2 period with a War going on between two Sides, The Empire (Bad guys) and the Federation (Good Guys). However you are a Squad leader for Neutral country Gallia whom gets Invaded for Ragnite, along with other story related things.

Throughout your time as a squad leader you choose which soldiers are going to be in the active squad roster apart from the five leader members. Whilst playing this game you grow attached to your squad members sort of like in XCOM games as permadeath is a mechanic which applies in this game (apart from the leader units who always get retreated when they die) However the game does give you some turns to run to a unit that gets "killed" and then will call a medic so instead they live to fight in another battle, however if an enemy unit runs over them they will die permanently.

Gameplay wise you have a pool of Command points to use and each action with a soldier takes one CP (Tanks take 2) where you will then move from the perspective of looking at a map, into a 3rd person over the shoulder style where you will then be able to use that units Action points to move them around where ever you want and also take an action such as attacking or healing. Unit wise there are Five Classes. Scout, Shocktrooper, Sniper, Lancer and Engineer as well as two tanks you get control of. In Addition to this there are orders which you can learn which basically gives buffs to your units.

For more in depth gameplay mechanics and things i would check out other Steam Reviews, but to be honest this game has been out for coming on 11 years for the PS3, and coming up to 5 years for the PC and trust me there are better reviews than this one lol. However as for an overall score I would give it a 10/10 and definitely worth it's full price (its one of those hidden gems of a game,) due to the great story, great characters, and the innovative BLiTZ battle system. Now there is more i could write about details i have missed here but i don't want you to be reading forever. (P.S. Marina is the best character.)
