It's hard to even explain how much Rebellion ruined the Sniper Elite franchise with Sniper Elite 5. I'm a man who applauds innovation and change, but literally almost everything in Sniper Elite 5 makes the game less enjoyable than Sniper Elite 4.

As a player with over 1,700 hours in SE4 and completed SEV2 and SE3, I feel pretty letdown so far. I only play on Authentic. I REALLY want to like this game. But after playing a few more hours, it appears that Rebellion has jumped the shark with this release.

1. There is no wind on the majority of the game I have played, eliminating the challenge of compensating for that. You would have figured they could have at least put in some significant winds when you are on the coastline literally staring at the English Channel. The shooting mechanics have now become unskilled center of crosshair shooting. The wind feels so non-existent from my gameplay that I've been actually questioning if it's a bug. Yes, I get that it was exaggerated in SE4 / SE3 / SEV2, but that made it fun and differentiated the rifles and muzzle velocities, and gave an additional acquired skill factor. You no longer really have to zero a rifle, because it doesn't matter. I don't even look at the wind indicator anymore because it doesn't move 98% of the time. It doesn't feel like a sniping game anymore.
2. The bullet trails coming off enemies bullets look like jumbo jet contrails. I would have thought they could be toned down or removed in Authentic.
3. As others have mentioned, I do not know why they went in the misguided direction of all the non-lethal stuff.
4. I liked the movement of SE4 better. SE5 feels clumsier, almost reminiscent of the clumsiness that SE3 felt like.
5. The coop survival mode camaraderie of reviving people now takes a turn for the worse due to needing medkits to revive your teammates. So all you can do is watch them go down and die if you don't have any to spare. And of course if you use them on a teammate, you no longer have them to heal yourself.
6. In coop survival, ammo at command posts can now be challenging to share. One person can walk up to the command post after a wave has started and basically take it all, leaving no ammo for teammates. That is going to case a lot of tension, and also be a camaraderie breaker.
7. The white outline around your character while your character is in foliage in Authentic is tacky looking and really takes away from the experience of actually feeling like you are hidden in a bush.
8. When you are playing survival, even in Authentic, they put white outlines around the last 5 guys. Seriously, training wheel kid ♥♥♥♥ like that shouldn't be in Authentic.
9. There aren't many snipers in coop survival, and it looks like the positions of them aren't going to vary much. They also seem to be less of a threat than the snipers on SE4.
10. The AI is completely brain-dead. Often, you'll find guys just sitting there inexplicably while a complete gunfight is going on. Their reaction time is slow, and you can just run at them and melee then before they even think about shooting at you.

Hopefully things like these get adjusted in patches, SE5 has been two or three steps back from what they had going in SE4. It's hard to determine if they are trying to only appeal to the casual gamer that just wants to run through the game like it's a movie and dumbed down the skill level to remedial levels for them.

Rebellion dumbed down the difficulty of SE5 bigtime by pretty much removing bullet wind mechanics, and making the AI clueless in comparison to previous SE games. So unless they address major things like that, the game might indeed just be plain boring. It's so far off from being fun in the skill regard that I don't even know if they'll be able to salvage it with patches. Most of the die hard regular SE4 players that I know feel that way. And that comes from someone who has played over 1700 hours of SE4 and REALLY wanted to love SE5.

Seems Rebellion wanted to try to make this either a stealth game or a run and gun game, and lost their roots in the sniping aspect. I think they got lost and overwhelmed themselves with all the weapon customization stuff and actually forgot what makes their games fun for the people who bought it wanting a sniper game.
