I'm going to get downvoted into oblivion, but I'm personally happy to have some new skill trees to tinker with and a roguelike to enjoy.

Much better than the original. With the additions of a true map and the ability to change FOV without a third party program, I may finally finish this bad boy up.

Definitely worth a try if you hated the original.

Been in this ♥♥♥♥♥ since the first wave of closed beta invites went out. The last 15 months has definitely had its share of ups and downs, but by all accounts we've come to a pretty good place for a mixed bag EA experience.

Here's the current vibe. (jun 12)

Pros:

- Netcode is in a steady place. There's still going to be some WTF moments, but we've come leaps and bounds in recent months. Game feels clean and crisp if your rig can handle the torment.

- Champ balance isn't complete ♥♥♥♥ atm. With some exceptions to 2v2 composition, there isn't one champ that stands above and beyond the rest anymore.

- Queue times are decent. Since the E3 mention, player numbers have been through the roof! What was a 400-800 playerbase game is currently topping 12-15k. This has made a dramatic change in queue times for duel and team modes, at least in the States. Hopefully numbers stay up and this trend continues.

- It's still quake. Granted the recent June patch has done a lot to help that feeling along, but the speed and feel is finally there. For now, at least. :p

Cons:

- Playlists. As of right now you're only able to queue for solo/team modes, or duel/2v2tdm. Before the June patch you were able to pick from FFA, TDM, Instagib, Duel, and Sacrifice. As it stands currently, SAC isn't even a game mode you can play unless you have the Champions Pack and host a match yourself, which is a bummer. Quite a lot of players right now are beyond annoyed at this change, which has shown in some of the recent reviews on the Store page. Definitely a hot topic atm that we're all hoping gets reverted.

- Sound. To say that the sound in this game atm is not up to standard is an understatement. There's times someone will blindside you with no queues as to them being in the area, which wasn't ever really an issue in prior iterations of the franchise. Granted we're still in the EA side of things, but the progression of the sound in-game has grown at a snail's pace.

- Player collision. Two players running into each other tends to cause a lot of "what in the ♥♥♥♥ is going on right now" moments. You can bump into people and just straight up get lost because of it. Tough to explain, but a few hours of playtime will give you a few of these instances.

- Queue times. Although they've gotten much better post E3 showing, you're destined to run into times where you'll wait upwards of 8-10 minutes for a game. This typically happens later at night, and during the wee hours of the mornings. Otherwise things haven't been that bad lately.

- Matchmaking. This will never be what a lot of people would consider a true even skilled experience. Quake is one of very few games people play where the skill ceiling is limitless. There are always new tricks being discovered, and new methods of trapping and escaping oponents. Even a closely matched game between two players using the SR system can leave some heavily lopsided results, but such is the nature of this beast.

For all the new kids showing up, it's great to have you here with us. It's going to be hard, it's going to suck at times, and you're going to tilt. But that first buttery smooth quad run where you feel completely untouchable to everyone else in the server is going to be the hook that keeps you invested for years to come.

To the vets taking a peek, give it a hundred hours, and the abilities meta will become as second nature as a b2r c-jump. Besides, we all know CA is getting old over there. ;)

GLHF, and happy fragging!

You can powerslide your nuts off in the mustang g1

Sucks there aren't more real world locations, but it's a mute point in light of just how fun it is to drive and race in this game.
