Early Access Review
I waited to post a review for Beam.NG because for a while, it was more like a tech demo than a game. I still considered it one of the most fun games I'd played, but it was cumbersome for anyone that wanted to just play a game. The early versions could require as much work as play at times, and obviously a project this ambitious had some problems with performance and optimization.

Now between the mods and the actual Campaigns and scenarios built in, I feel comfortable recommending it without reservation. There is plenty of content right out of the box, and the game seems to scale for lower-end machines much better every time an update drops. I simply cannot speak highly enough of this game at this point. Once you dip your toes into the released content, I challenge anyone not to beg for more.

Luckily, there is an tremendous mod scene. It's not built into Steam (for reasons beyond me, it's discussed on the forums and the official website). https://www.beamng.com/resources/ Do yourself a plethora of favors, there is a giant banner that will walk you through the incredibly simple process of adding mods (At the time of writing, there is no built-in manager. Just download and move to the corrrect folder, the game detects them on start-up). Also, anything tagged Alpha or Beta is official content that is just not finished or released into the full game. I have barely scratched the surface and try to stick to official mods for compatibility reasons.

If it runs poorly, wait it out or request a refund :/ I'd recommend a gamepad or wheel for driving but you'll need KB+M for the interface. The latest patch even made it possible to work the UI over Steam Link (360 controller only), as long as I wasn't trying to go to the moon. If it seems too much like work, spend 10m on YouTube and find a decent beginner's guide (the official site also has plenty of great info). I literally cannot think of a complaint about this game, unless it being made so well that it becomes esoteric counts. I don't count it.
