A great horror experience that still gives me the same thrills it did nearly 14 years ago.

One of my most favourite games of all time.

It has a very deep and introspective story with a very well built world and captivating environments. The gameplay is a little bit lacking in variety, but it works very well with the horror and exploration elements of this game. The game is forgiving regarding the horror elements, and it offers a "safe" mode as well if you just want the story.

The sound design is very immersive and detailed. The characters are well written and the story feels natural. There is also a lot to this game's story and world that can be missed if you aren't looking for it.

One of the best games I have ever played.

The simplistic beauty of this game made me cry multiple times (in a good way). Just seeing the positive impact you have on restoring these ecosystems combined with the beautiful soundtrack hits so perfectly.

It's a nice game, but not a "masterpiece" as they love to claim it to be.

If you like Bethesda games and the fallout series, then this game definitely doesn't stray from that formula at all. However, if you're looking for an engaging story, lively world, and well written characters, the likes of Cyberpunk 2077, Outer Worlds, or even Fallout New Vegas, then this game is not for you.

The artistic quality of the game is phenomenal and it is very well crafted by many very talented individuals who have clearly spent a long time working on this. But when it shines in this regard, it fails in other areas.

This game falls flat and feels empty a lot of the time. There are a few places with a lot of attention and detail in them, but there are only a few of them in the entire game. Because they are just part of a larger world, they feel lacking and very shallow. The scope is far too huge to allow for the level of attention that these places need to become truly special and unique.

The quests often fail to tackle nuance and give the player adequate freedom. The game's moral and ethical assumptions are very heavy-handed in how they are forced upon you. I often find myself having to choose something that I completely disagree with because there is no alternative. For a game that claims to be an RPG, they are very reluctant to give you the reigns and truly make a player-driven experience.

Performance is very poor, even on the powerful setup that I have. I am barely able to keep my FPS above 40 a lot of the time on Low settings. Crashes are so common that it has become a habit for me to quicksave before everything I do.
I have friends who are literally unable to play the game because their computers are not capable of it. I find this to be completely ridiculous, while I understand how pretty pixels makes gamers super excited for no reason, denying access to a game because someone cant afford to upgrade their gaming pc just makes me angry. "Oh, you're poor? LOL okay, I guess you cant play our new game."

At the end of the day, this is a mediocre game with a scope way to large to allow for real in-depth quality, touted as some kind of "masterpiece" by its over-excessive marketing.

I purchased this for less than its full price, and I would absolutely NOT recommend it for it's asking price.
