Simply put: Shadow Generations is the best 3D Sonic game ever made. It takes the experimental good ideas from Frontiers and actually builds upon them making for a very polished gameplay experience (something of a rarity ever since Sonic's 3D conception). This needs to be the template for future games.

The game is a mixed big - the open world gameplay has potential, and the cyber levels unfortunately leave a lot to be desired. However, if you're a fan of absolutely bat sh** crazy boss battles, then do yourself a favor and just play this game.

The port of this game on Steam isn't too great. I don't know if it's just me but the controls feel much more sensitive than they were on the Dreamcast and Gamecube. It doesn't feel like they were well optimized and I tend to make much more mistakes due to that. I wish they would update it to patch out the launcher and integrate native controller support so that I can open it seamlessly on Big Picture as well.

The game itself has aged worse than its predecessor in my opinion. The episodic nature of the game is cool until you realize some of the levels involving especially Tails and Eggman are just not fun to play. The Sonic and Shadow segments are the ones that come closest to holding up today. Even Knuckles and Rouge have some questionable level design choices in some parts. Despite that, I still think it's a fun game to play regardless of the flaws, but I'd say SA1 feels much more fun to play nowadays which is weird considering I thought this game was way better back in the day.

I'm someone who played the original on the Dreamcast so it was one of my first opportunities to foray into 3D Platforming and I'd say it still holds up overall. The Sonic stages particularly are still very fun to play with the exception of some of the boss battles and the stupid plane sequence which didn't age well at all (clearly this segment was done for the spectacle). Tails, Knuckles, and E102-Gamma are also still fun to play today. Amy and Big the Cat are pretty lame - Amy is way too slow and doesn't have many moves to make things interesting, and Big the Cat is just bad, don't @ me.

In terms of the steam port, it's an older release that depends on an annoying launcher which I wish they would patch out because it causes a lot of annoying issues with controller support especially if you try launching from Big Picture. This is also based on the DX version which may look ugly for some purists but I personally think it looks fine. I did install some mods to make Amy's mode more interesting to play and I'd highly recommend to look into that as well because it actually made it fun (I always thought the entire concept was boring but I guess this mod made me realize its possible to salvage).

Overall a fun game that arguably stands the test of time better than its successor.

This game hit me hard. I wasn't expecting something like a crime drama video game to tackle so many real life issues in a mature way while also managing to maintain a sense of humor to everything it depicts.

Like A Dragon reminds me a lot of Earthbound or Dragon Quest in the way it handles its subject matter. It's not easy to handle such topics in serious ways but also inject humor tastefully - usually most media keeps the two entirely separate. These games are very unique in that sense and I can't get enough.

The game itself is the studio's first attempt at making a turn-based JRPG and while it's not perfect, they really knocked it out of the park for their first attempt and I hope they consider building upon this formula in the future rather than reverting back to the old battle system.

The music has no right to be insanely awesome like this. I was head banging and hyped during so many battles and key moments. Yakuza has always had good music but I honestly think this just takes it to a whole new level.

Yokohama is a beautiful world to explore and really feels alive and lived in thanks to all the side content you can indulge in. I've barely scratched the surface because I was so invested in the story and characters but I definitely intend to play more. Ichiban and the cast work really well with each other and I really enjoyed their interactions especially how they introduce them.

I only started getting into Yakuza in 2020 and I was not expecting for this to become my game of the year. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a classic JRPG tale converted into a modern setting with a twist of crime. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play some LAD.

Creator of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi and father of JRPGs and Dragon Quest Yuji Hori came together with Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama in a moment in history that would never repeat itself since. They called it the Dream Team and this was the result. This is a genre-defining video game that oozes with passion, charm, endearing characters, and an epic story and world. A project like this is likely to never happen in the same caliber again. If you like JRPGs do yourself a favor and give this a shot - it's also a fantastic port on Steam.

You're not missing much with the lack of Full Body in my opinion. I think the expansion actually disrupts the dark tone of the original in some ways. The only thing you're missing is the added perks to the gameplay, which is a shame, but not enough to ruin your experience.

Early Access Review
It's a fun game that gives us plenty of laughs, but I really think it could benefit from having the option to be a little scarier and more intense at times. Sometimes it feels like we spend 15 minutes yelling and swearing at the ghost, so I hope to see updates to spruce up the fear factor a little bit.

Months later and I still revisit this gem time to time. Just a fantastic experience and incredibly replayable - I basically introduce it to any friend I can find.
