Great game to play with friends, runs reasonably well on most hardware. Best implementation of a live-service style story campaign ever.

Fun game, especially with friends. Some online issues, but it's way better in co-op anyway. For the price of a cheeseburger you're not going to get a better party game.

Early Access Review
Let me start off this review by saying I've been following BeamNG since 2012 and bought as soon as the initial release happened in 2013. The dev team has been amazing in supporting and updating the game.

Pros:
Amazing physics, detailed car design, helpful dev team. The maps are absolutely beautiful also.

Cons:
The engine is a small bit unoptimized, but the dev team is working on it. Also, sometimes there is a while between updates but the past few have been very timely, and it seems a lot of background work is behind us.

All-in-all I recommend this game, though it might not be for everyone. A majority of the game right now is a free-roam crashing simulator, though the devs have added a good many situations and races.

Also, this is a state of the art engine. You'll need a fast CPU, and sadly AMD has an architecture stuck in the past. More cores do help, but your AMD will need to be clocked a fair bit higher than usual to keep the FPS other games do. A modern (4+ series) Intel needs about 3.4Ghz to play most of the cars, to keep even the most intensive at 60+fps you'll need 4.0Ghz. Like I said though the engine is being optimized.

On the GPU side you can keep solid 60fps on medium with a 280x, and high will keep you mostly 60 but sometimes into the lower 50s. If you max the game with PostFX and reflections it will drag a 280x into the 20fps range and even a 290x has issues keeping up. This hasn't been as much of an issue until this update, so I'll update if it changes again.

TL;DR smashy, you need a good computer. I rate 10/10

After nearly abandoning this game for the past few years Frontier Developments have finally run out of profit from their zoo games and are pivoting back to what made them successful in the first place. This pivot apparently involves screwing over console players by discontinuing support, refusing to improve the performance of their horribly optimized expansion, and locking new ships behind that expansion. Don't worry though, if you don't want to purchase a poorly reviewed junk DLC you can still buy the new ships with $$ microtransactions $$! It's also looking like buying pre-outfitted ships with real money will give you a PvP and PvE bonus in-game, while also having free insurance. Perfect for griefers. We'll see if they roll any of these changes back, but I doubt they will. Don't support this.

Original review below:
I bought before it was on steam, so my hours don't show, but my estimation is well over 100 hours that I've spent in game. In that 100+ hours I've created and broken political alliances, been hired to murder government officials, taken part in a revolution that freed a system, saved my friends from pirates, fallen victim to pirates, accidentally blown myself up, purposefully blown myself up, and done pretty much everything else. If I ever manage to get bored of what I am doing now (pretty much being a mall cop and hunting criminals) there are still 400 billion star systems for me to explore.
Also,in a couple days the release 1.3 is coming out, promising a lot more to do. I'll update my review then.

TL;DR Go into space, blow up stuff, get paid.

Great time waster. Kinda a giant endless battle with constant death for unskilled players (me), but you can blow a lot of time on it.
