Early Access Review
Edit 2: been playing for over 2 years, and my GOODNESS, did the biggest L update get dropped today! A feature got added which adds companions. Now these are not cosmetic companions alone, no they give INSANE bonuses, totally game changing.

You get one free per week. The rarer ones have insanely low odds, there is NO pity system, and get this, as you buy more, the price goes UP!! until the reset, NOT the end of the day or week.

Ah but you can buy them using existing currency right? NO, lava introduced a SECOND premium currency, GREEN gems on top of the existing BLUE gems. These are more than TWICE the cost, and are so far only used for companions, with no other way to earn them.

I'm livid, what an absolutely pay to win system in a game that was bragged about from a developer claiming to be "heavily anti pay to win" and "for the gamers by the gamers".

I guess the game has hit that point where it went to greed.

Avoid for now until lava fixes this absolute mess.

Edit: I have changed this to a positive review as promised, as Lava has answered a lot of what I put down as flaws.

The Obol system got reworked, costs reduced and break-chance reduced (and removed on higher level obols), making it a LOT better.

He has started listening more to people's opinions and implemented a lot of long-time requested features on an ongoing basis.

He still hasn't done anything with the exp levels of Construction, but I think at this point he's just going to accept it as it is without reducing them, which is a fair middle-grounds.

I love this game, and I highly recommend giving it a shot - it may not be to everyone's cup of tea but to me it's an addiction. My hours on here don't reflect my actual playtime as I play most of the time on Android - I probably have closer to 3000 hours+ in this game.

A charming game with an active dev. This sounds like it should be a positive review, which is why it pains me to leave a negative review.

Let me explain my decision here; The dev will put his own opinion of things above all, ignoring the majority opinion of the player base, and flat out skipping over a lot of what are voted the best player suggestions. This leads to a lot of unpopular decisions being forced through because 'Lava likes it' even if there's a mass uproar against it.

He has recently put in place a system called Obol Combining which includes high costs, a high chance to break already very rare obols, and he has placed obols for high-cost in the cash shop, which is considered by the majority to be a potentially p2w system. Thankfully he is considering backtracking on the ridiculous breaking part of this horrendous system, but the damage may already be done to people's thoughts on his choices.

There has been a recent bug also, which has caused an unusually high gain in experience in a certain skill for certain players. He has stated he will revert the levels to a certain amount, but this won't happen for a week, meaning nobody that has a high level in the skill can raise it, or they will risk losing all gained levels until that point - this just stinks of laziness, and punishes the players who want to level.

The combination of a developer who, however active, is deaf to the public and blind to potential problems, leads me to this negative review. If he ever improves in this regard and my confidence in the future of this game is restored, I will change my review accordingly.

Developer response:

Hey there,
Now that some time has passed, I wanted to say this personally: I'm sorry for the frustration companions caused. At the time with all the backlash, there was so much emotion from so many people, it was tough to respond properly...

Since then, I've been hard at work making things better:
• Pets can now be traded and duplicated — when you trade your Doot to a friend, you keep yours and they get one too! So you both end up with one!
• Much of Doot's bonus is now given to everyone, free or paid, through a new bonus added to The Hole in World 5.
• All future companions only give simple stat bonuses, nothing gameplay-changing like Doot did.
• Guarantees for the rarest companions were lowered from 200 pulls to just 20.
• Content itself remains free. New classes, World 6, clicker mini-modes, they are all free to play and not Paid DLC.

If you can respect the effort I've put in the past two years, making real changes to improve this system, I'd appreciate a changed review, especially since you still play.

Either way, I hope my work has been a net positive in your life.

Oh god why? 2 May @ 12:35am
In response to dev, guarantee for doot remains at 200 pulls, with the free pull requiring green gems still to access it. Sure the new one is 20 (or 30 for the best), but to get that guarantee, every pull needs to be using green gems, not free.

Still a negative experience, aggravated by the fact that the free pull no longer counts towards pity at all.

On top of this, hundreds of people, me included were removed from the official discord years ago for complaining, without cursing, about this system and to this date remain banned.

For these reasons, I can respect and enjoy the game, but my respect for the developer causes the honest negative review to remain and my opinion to stay unchanged.

The game has had a positive change in my life yes, but just because I enjoy world of warcraft, doesn't mean I have to respect blizzard. Same goes for idleon and it's developer.
