Finally a game with movement better than Ultrakill and large arenas that allow the player to advantage of it! The hover board and grapple combo act a lot like the VR title Jet Island, but unlike that game the challenge doesn’t come from battling with clumsy VR controls, and you can actually enjoy zipping around the floating islands that the game takes place on. There were even a couple times where the fast travel would have saved me some time, but I was enjoying the movement so much that I decided to take the scenic route. Echo Point Nova also features destructible environments akin to Deep Rock Galactic or Worms 3D, and more often than not the bigger enemies are using it to their advantage blasting away any cover you try to hide behind. In my opinion the only area that I could see improved on is the gunplay. While the player’s slow traveling bullets (with drop) do feel incredibly natural when standing still – that’s something that the game actively tries to push you against, and when you’re flying towards an enemy at breakneck speeds it can be frustrating when the slow melee attack feels like it would be the better tactical option than simply shooting them. I also feel like the weapons are all a bit too realistic and similar to each other, when I would have killed for some zanier wilder options, or at least a better way to tell them apart visually when swapping. Still, it’s a great game, and I can easily recommend it.
