Barotrauma is a game that thrives when people come together and keep a submarine afloat like a family whilst battling resource management, hostile alien threats, and sometimes even each other. This game has lore, survival, crafting, a good mixture of both simple and complex mechanics, combat and horror elements. A little something to appeal to almost anybody out there. One of the few games that I'm truly passionate about, DESPITE most of the fun coming from the online play, something I typically despise in games. But the developers have nailed it here.

Undertow, FakeFish and Daedalic have concocted a near-perfect brew in terms of a game.
- Intriguing and varied styles of play thanks to the many tools the developers provide to the player. Custom content creation? Check, go wild, make your own monsters, submarines, weapons, mechanical systems, gamemodes even!
- A unique selling point, somehow managing to carve out a niche genre in such a diverse and vast world of games. The art style is something I've not seen before, animating static images in such a fluid way that doesn't look too clunky or goofy (unless you make it that way by holding space or spamming the ctrl button).
- Player Retention. I personally always find myself playing a small handful of games for a couple of weeks straight and then move on to another handful. Because of this, I often get bored. Barotrauma is one of the few games which I can always come back to when bored and manage to have a laugh, thanks to the frequent content updates by the dedicated developer team, the game never gets stagnant, unlike the water in the ballasts of any submarine I try to make (still working out how to use that submarine creator).

The ONLY thing holding this game back is the online community. There are very few people who play this game, even less who will play without sabotaging a submarine and ruining everybody's fun just to get a kick of their own. The best way I've found to deal with this is search across servers for a handful of good folk, and try to convince them to form a group over Discord or Skype, that way you can guarantee you can have a fun and safe game with ease.
