i love these games. but please listen.

if you are planning on buying this and haven't even played the previous entries, DO NOT, i repeat, DO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NOT play the MyRise modes. 2K is lying to you. you will NOT be playing out "your" story and going your own path as the intro claims. for some stupid godforsaken reason, and 2K23 also had this problem (idk if it was in 2K22 as i never got to play that one), the matches you go through in this game have OBJECTIVES. objectives you HAVE to complete regardless of if you win or not. if you don't play this mode the way the game tells you to, you have to start the match ALL OVER AGAIN- again, regardless of if you win or not. i could not get through the first match, the FIRST ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ match, of "MyRise Unleashed" because i was scrambling to carry Odyssey Rift's fatass so i could throw her into the table i was forced to set on fire (which costs one slot of your finisher meter btw so make sure you don't waste it trying to whittle her down!). why do i HAVE to do this??? just let me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ win! i could've won almost easily if the game just let me do whatever i wanted. isn't this supposed to be MY path to the top or something?

WHY. ARE THESE. OBJECTIVES. IN MYRISE. what purpose do they serve? it isn't really "my" story if i'm supposed to go through it THEIR way. am i insane for thinking this??? i recently did a casket match, which are pretty tough to win if you don't have the fastest fingers in the world, in free play. no restrictions. no tiny missions to complete. and i won. by a hair, but still. why, when i'm let off the leash, do i play so well despite my skill issue (i still have trouble doing counters in time), but when i have set goals to complete i do more poorly than usual. i think i cracked down why with this first Unleashed match. they distract me from focusing on just fighting my damn opponent. WWE 2K matches are not easy for some like me. the rules in those games, even when you choose a match type with literally no rules, are way different than other 3D fighting games. i dare say, they might be the hardest 3D fighting games i’ve personally ever played. you have to be quick, but you also have to be smart. and you especially need to be focused. focused on one thing: your opponent(s). i DO NOT need to be worrying about doing this that way to please the developers. i tried that, and i ended up losing the first match. i’m embarrassed to even say that, to be honest. on paper, you’d have to be totally inept to lose the first match of ANY fighting game’s story mode. and yet Visual Concepts found a way. by the way, i’m pretty sure the showcase mode does this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too, so don’t touch that either. if you really want to know how these two modes go just watch them on youtube or something.

so yeah, play this game only for individual matches, by yourself or online. i just can’t even fathom why they’d ruin such a great concept like a “you”-focused WWE story mode. i hope they fix MyRise for 2K25. they probably won’t. they’ll be too busy recycling NBA 2K for the umpteenth time to even consider making this change.

Hope they choose a new developer that can make all aspects of the game playable, not just a game that works intermittently with many issues.
